The 1960 Appalachian State Mountaineers football team was an American football team that represented Appalachian State Teachers College (now known as Appalachian State University) as a member of the North State Conference during the 1960 NAIA football season. Conference Carolinas, formerly known as the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference (CVAC) or the Carolinas Conference, is a college athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) primarily at the Division II level. Phillips Field (Florida)
Phillips Field was a medium-sized stadium (maximum capacity approximately 20,000) located on the west bank of the Hillsborough River across from downtown Tampa, immediately adjacent to the University of Tampa. It opened on October 4, 1937, and served as the home for the University of Tampa's football team from 1937 to 1967. The facility was named for local businessman I. W. Phillips, who donated the land to the school so that the Spartans would not have to share nearby Plant Field, which was often unavailable due to its use for many different sports and community events. Besides "Tampa U" home games, Phillips Field hosted many other sporting events. The 1960 Tampa Spartans football team represented the University of Tampa in the 1960 NCAA College Division football season. It was the Spartans' 24th season. The team was led by head coach Marcelino Huerta, in his ninth year, and played their home games at Phillips Field in Tampa, Florida. They finished with a record of two wins, seven losses and one tie (2–7–1). After they opened the season at home with a 7–7 tie against , the Spartans lost on the road at and Tennessee. After the Spartans won the first game of the season over , they lost to both McNeese State and before they defeated on homecoming for their second win of the season. Jefferson City (originally named Mossy Creek) is a city in Jefferson County, Tennessee, United States. It is part of the Morristown Metropolitan Statistical Area. The 1960 Lenoir Rhyne Bears football team was an American football team that compiled an undefeated 11–0–1 record and won the NAIA national football championship. Season summary The team represented Lenoir Rhyne College (now known as Lenoir–Rhyne University) as a member of the North State Conference (NSC) during the 1960 NAIA football season. In their 19th season under head coach Clarence Stasavich, the team compiled an 11–0–1 record (6–0 against NSC opponents) and won the NSC championship. The Bears were ranked No. 2 in the final Associated Press small college poll and No. 3 in the final UPI small college coaches poll. (The small college polls included both NCAA and NAIA programs.)
