1959–60 NYU Violets Men's Basketball Team
The 1959–60 NYU Violets men's basketball team represented New York University in college basketball, intercollegiate basketball during the 1959–60 season. The team finished the season with a 22–5 overall record while winning the Metropolitan New York Conference with a perfect 4–0 record in league play. The Violets earned their second NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship, NCAA Division I basketball tournament Final Four appearance (their first was in 1944–45 NYU Violets men's basketball team, 1944–45). Lou Rossini
Lucio "Lou" Rossini (April 24, 1921 – October 21, 2005) was an American college basketball coach. He compiled a 357–256 record in almost 20 years of coaching, most notably with New York University (NYU). In Rossini's first year as head coach with Columbia University, he guided them to a 21–1 record and an appearance in the 1951 NCAA basketball tournament. After Columbia, Rossini coached at NYU, leading them to three NCAA tournament appearances and four National Invitation Tournament (NIT) bids in 13 seasons. Rossini last coached in the NCAA for St. Francis College in Brooklyn, from 1975 to 1979, and had a 55–48 record. He also coached the Puerto Rican national team in the 1964 and 1968 Olympics and the Qatar national team in the 1980s. Satch Sanders
Thomas Ernest "Satch" Sanders (born November 8, 1938) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. He played his entire professional career as a power forward for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Sanders won eight NBA championships and is tied for third for the most NBA championships. He is also one of three NBA players with an unsurpassed 8–0 record in NBA Finals series. After his playing retirement, he served as a head coach for the Harvard Crimson men's basketball team and the Boston Celtics. Sanders was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as a contributor in 2011. 1960 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1960 NCAA University Division basketball tournament involved 25 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball in the United States. It began on March 7, 1960, and ended with the championship game on March 19 in Daly City, California (immediately south of San Francisco). A total of 29 games were played, including a third-place game in each region and a national third-place game. Ohio State, coached by Fred Taylor, won the national title with a 75–55 victory in the final game over California, coached by Pete Newell. Jerry Lucas of Ohio State was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. The 1944–45 NYU Violets men's basketball team represented New York University in intercollegiate basketball during the 1944–45 season. The team finished the season with a 14–7 overall record and were national runners-up to the Oklahoma A&M Aggies (now known as the Oklahoma State Cowboys).
