1958–59 Idaho Vandals Men's Basketball Team
The 1958–59 Idaho Vandals men's basketball team represented the University of Idaho during the 1958–59 NCAA University Division basketball season. Members of the Pacific Coast Conference, the Vandals were led by fifth-year head coach Harlan Hodges and played their home games on campus at Memorial Gymnasium in Moscow, Idaho. The Vandals were overall and in conference play in the final season of the PCC. The last conference game was a home win in overtime over Oregon, coached by UI alumnus Steve Belko. Idaho played two home games in southern Idaho on consecutive nights in late December, both losses to Utah State, in Twin Falls and Boise, the latter at the Bronco Gym of Boise Junior College. Harlan Hodges
Harlan Crews Hodges (November 11, 1902 – June 6, 1994) was an American college basketball coach and educator. He was the head coach at Murray State (1948–54) and Idaho (1954–59), then became a high school administrator. Early career Hodges' coaching career began at West Frankfort High School in West Frankfort, Illinois. In his 12 seasons at WFHS, Hodges' Redbirds won their regional tournament three times, their sectional tournament twice, and made it to the state championship four times. He spent one season as the head basketball and track coach at the Missouri School of Mines before returning to his alma mater, Southern Illinois as an assistant basketball and football coach. Murray State Hodges was hired at Murray State College in Murray, Kentucky, in the spring of 1948. His 1950–51 and 1951–52 teams finished the year ranked No. 16 in the years' end AP poll. ExtraMile Arena (formerly BSU Pavilion and Taco Bell Arena) is a multi-purpose indoor arena in the western United States, on the campus of Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. It is located on the east end of campus, between West Campus Lane and César Chávez Circle, immediately northwest of Albertsons Stadium. Home to the Broncos basketball and gymnastics teams, its current seating capacity is 12,644 for basketball. The elevation of its floor is approximately above sea level. Dave Strack
David H. Strack (March 2, 1923 – January 25, 2014) was an American athletic director for the University of Arizona and head basketball coach of the University of Michigan. He was inducted to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. Early life Strack grew up in Indiana and graduated from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, where he was the basketball team's captain and MVP in 1941 and named to the Indiana All-Star team. Strack played college basketball at the University of Michigan (UM), earning MVP honors in 1943 and 1946. Basketball career Strack briefly played professionally for the Indianapolis Kautskys of the NBL. The 1958–59 Michigan Wolverines men's basketball team represented the University of Michigan in intercollegiate college basketball during the 1958–59 season. The team played its home games at Fielding H. Yost Field House (renamed Yost Ice Arena in 1973) on the school's campus in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Under the direction of head coach William Perigo, the team finished tied for second in the Big Ten Conference but failed to get an invitation to either the 1959 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament or the 1959 National Invitation Tournament. Jim Prestel
James Francis Prestel (born June 28, 1937) is a former professional football player, a defensive lineman in the National Football League in the 1960s. Selected in the 1959 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, he stayed in and joined the team in 1960.
