1958 NAIA Basketball Tournament
The 1958 NAIA men's basketball tournament was held in March at Municipal Auditorium (Kansas City), Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri. The 21st annual National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, NAIA basketball tournament featured 32 teams playing in a single-elimination format. The championship game featured returning champions, Tennessee State University who defeated the Western Illinois Leathernecks basketball, Western Illinois University. The Tigers won over the Leathernecks, it would be the third time a team won back-to-back championships. Tennessee State is the 5th school to win 2 National Titles, joining University of Central Missouri, Hamline University, Indiana State University and Southwest Missouri State. Municipal Auditorium (Kansas City)
Municipal Auditorium is a multi-purpose facility located in Kansas City, Missouri. It opened in 1935 and features Streamline Moderne and Art Deco architecture and architectural details. Background Municipal Auditorium was the first building built as part of the "Ten-Year Plan", a bond program that passed by a 4 to 1 margin in 1931. The campaign was run by the Civic Improvement Committee chaired by Conrad H. Mann. Other buildings in the plan included the Kansas City City Hall and the Kansas City branch of the Jackson County Courthouse. The plan was championed by most local politicians including Thomas Pendergast and provided Pendergast with many patronage opportunities during the Great Depression. Municipal Auditorium replaced Convention Hall which was directly across the street and was torn down for parking to create what is now called the Barney Allis Plaza. Western Illinois Leathernecks Men's Basketball
The Western Illinois Leathernecks men's basketball team represents Western Illinois University of Macomb, Illinois, in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's college basketball competition. The school's team currently competes in The Summit League. Western Illinois' first men's basketball team was fielded in 1910–1911. The Troy Trojans men's basketball program is the intercollegiate men's basketball of Troy University. The program is classified in NCAA Division I and the team competes in the Sun Belt Conference. IUP Crimson Hawks men's basketball team is a Division II basketball program who represents Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys and Golden Suns are the athletic teams that represent Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas. Quincy Hawks
The Quincy Hawks are the athletic teams that represent Quincy University, located in Quincy, Illinois, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The Hawks compete as members of the West Division of the Great Lakes Valley Conference for all sports except men's volleyball, which is a member of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association.
