1956 New Zealand Rugby League Season
The 1956 New Zealand rugby league season was the 49th season of rugby league that had been played in New Zealand. International competitions New Zealand returned from their tour of Great Britain and France. The Kiwis then toured Australia, losing the test series 3-nil. The team was coached by Bill Telford, managed by Ron McGregor and included Des White, Vern Bakalich, first and third test captain Tommy Baxter, Bill Sorensen, Cyril Eastlake, second test captain George Menzies, Sel Belsham, Henry Maxwell, Jock Butterfield, Duncan MacRae, Jim Riddell, Arnold Green, Cliff Johnson, Frank Mulcare and Tom Hadfield. 15 games were played on tour, including the three test matches and games against Wide Bay and Brisbane. Arnold Green (rugby League)
Arnold Thomas Green ( – 23 September 2016) was a New Zealand rugby league footballer who represented New Zealand. Playing career Green played for Runanga in the West Coast Rugby League competition and also represented the West Coast. In 1955 he played for the West Coast against France. In 1956, Green impressed for the South Island during the inter-island selection match. He was subsequently selected by the New Zealand national rugby league team for their tour of Australia. He became Kiwi #364 and, while he did not play in any test matches, he played in seven of the 15 games on tour and scored seven tries. Later years Green was a coal miner who worked on the West Coast and in Huntly. Tahuna Park
Tahuna and Tainui are two small, somewhat vaguely defined suburbs of the New Zealand city of Dunedin. They lie to the south of Andersons Bay and Musselburgh, close to Dunedin's southern coastline ( Ocean Beach). Both are often considered parts of either Musselburgh or Andersons Bay. Pat Creedy
Patrick Joseph Creedy (18 November 1927 – 7 April 2011) was a New Zealand rugby football player who represented New Zealand in rugby league. Playing career Creedy originally played rugby union and represented both the Southland Rugby Union and the Canterbury Rugby Union. Creedy later switched codes to rugby league and joined the Marist club in the Canterbury Rugby League competition. He represented Canterbury and in 1955 was selected at halfback for the South Island. That year he was first selected for the New Zealand national rugby league team, playing against the French and touring Great Britain and France. In 1956 he was selected at fullback for the South Island and in 1957 he was selected for the Kiwis squad for the 1957 World Cup. Creedy finished his career with 33 games for the Kiwis, including nine test matches. South Island Rugby League Team
The South Island rugby league team is a rugby league team that represents the South Island of New Zealand. They are nicknamed the Scorpions. The side previously represented the Southern Zone in the Albert Baskerville Trophy. However, they now only compete in the under 15 and under 17 National Competitions. Historically, teams representing the South Island played annual fixtures against the North Island and also played touring international sides. The Rugby League Cup is a New Zealand rugby league trophy that is contested between districts on a challenge basis. The trophy used to be known as the Northern Union Challenge Cup. Auckland Rugby League Team
The Auckland rugby league team is the team which traditionally represents all of the clubs which play in the Auckland Rugby League competition. As well as a senior men's team there are also Auckland representative teams throughout the various age groups such as under 15s, under 17s, under 19s and under 21s. Under the new zone scheme introduced in 2010 the Auckland team represents the North Shore, East Auckland and West Auckland, while South Auckland is represented by the Counties Manukau rugby league team. The Ellerslie Eagles are a rugby league club based in Ellerslie, New Zealand. The club was founded in 1912 and competes in Auckland Rugby League competitions. Balmain Tigers
The Balmain Tigers (also known as the Sydney Tigers from 1995–96) are a rugby league club based in the inner-western Sydney suburb of Balmain. They were a founding member of the New South Wales Rugby League and one of the most successful in the history of the premiership, with eleven titles. In 1999 they formed a joint venture club with the Western Suburbs Magpies club to form the Wests Tigers for competition in the National Rugby League (NRL). They no longer field any senior teams in the lower divisions. At the time of the joint venture only South Sydney Rabbitohs and the St George Dragons had won more titles than the Tigers.
