Divizia A
The Liga I (; ''First League''), also spelled as Liga 1, is a Romanian professional league for men's association football clubs. Currently sponsored by betting company Superbet, it is officially known as the SuperLiga. It is the country's top football competition, being contested by 16 clubs which take part in a promotion and relegation system with the Liga II. The teams play 30 matches each in the regular season, before entering the championship play-offs or the relegation play-outs according to their position in the regular table. The Liga I was established in 1909 and commenced play for the 1909–10 campaign, being currently on the 29th place in UEFA's league coefficient ranking list. It is administered by the Liga Profesionistă de Fotbal, also known by the acronym LPF. Before the 2006–07 season, the competition was known as ''Divizia A'', but the name had to be changed following the finding that someone else had registered that trademark. Traian Ivănescu
Traian Ivănescu (5 May 1933 – 29 July 2019) was a Romanian football player and manager. Career Born in Bucharest, Ivănescu played youth football with Militari București and Flamura Roşie București, before making his senior debut in 1951 with Flacăra București. He later played for CCA Steaua București, Progresul București, Siderurgistul Galați and Jiul Petroşani, before retiring in 1966. He was married to Doina Ivănescu a former volleyball player who represented her country at the 1964 Summer Olympics. He also earned one cap for Romania in 1954. Ivănescu later became a coach. He died on 29 July 2019, aged 86. Victor Dumitrescu
Victor Dumitrescu (25 September 1924 – 15 March 1997) was a Romanian footballer who played as left back. Dumitrescu began his football career at the age of 10, in the neighbour city of Deva. He played ten years for Corvinul Deva, beginning as a youth and finishing as a senior. In 1946, he moved to Sebeş, playing well for Surianul, and after two years he signed with Flacăra Mediaş. After three years in Mediaş, Dumitrescu joined Steaua București. He played eight years for his side, being a part of Steaua's Golden Team of the 1950s. He is the single player of the Golden Team who had never played for Romania national football team. Alexandru Apolzan
Alexandru Apolzan (6 February 1927 – 23 December 1982) was a Romanian footballer, who played as a defender, mainly for Steaua București and also for Romania. He has been credited with the invention of the sweeper role and is considered one of the best sweepers in the history of Romanian football, with only Miodrag Belodedici and Gheorghe Popescu, in recent years, being able to play at a similar level. Playing career It was the Romanian Apolzan who first played as sweeper, while at Steaua București. However, Apolzan played during the darkest period in the history of Romania, when the connections with the outside world were almost cut completely. Apolzan signed his first contract with Şoimii, a local team from Sibiu, in 1941. Vasile Zavoda
Vasile Zavoda, known as Zavoda II or Tigrul Akbar (26 July 1929 – 14 July 2014), was a Romanian football defender and manager. Between 1951 and 1962 he played 20 matches for Romania, including one at the 1952 Olympics. Domestically he competed through 1964 in the Romanian Divizia A, accumulating 257 games. After retiring from competitions he worked as an assistant coach for Steaua București in 1977–81. Overview Zavoda played for Metalul Baia Mare between 1947 and 1951, before joining Steaua București. Ion Voinescu
Ion "Țop" Voinescu (18 April 1929 – 9 March 2018) was a Romanian footballer, who is often considered one of the finest goalkeepers Romania has ever produced. Voinescu joined his first club, Olympia București, in 1939 just before the start of World War II, aged 10. After four years with Olympia, Voinescu left to join another club from Bucharest, ASPIM, but left again after the war's conclusion in 1945, in order to sign his first professional contract with Carmen București, which was one of the best Romanian football teams during the interbelic period. However, he ended up leaving the club a year later, where he joined Solvay Uioara. Gheorghe Constantin
Gheorghe Constantin (14 December 1932 – 9 March 2010) was a Romanian former footballer and coach. Known as ''The Professor'', he was a symbol of Steaua București. Club career Constantin made his debut for Unirea Tricolor's youth team, and shortly after their abolition he signed with Venus UCB. He played only a year for his new club, before moving to Avântul Reghin and then CFR Iaşi before he signed a contract with Steaua București. He played for Steaua 15-years, scoring 149 goals in Divizia A. Romanian Communist authorities allow him to play abroad for Kayserispor in Turkey. Titus Ozon
Titus Ozon (13 May 1927 – 24 November 1996) was a Romanian international football striker and manager. He was considered one of the greatest talents of the postwar in the Romanian football, famous for his extraordinary ability to dribble. Career He was born in Bucharest, in the Obor neighborhood. He started football at Unirea Tricolor București at the age of 10, under the guidance of coach Ștefan Cârjan. In 1948 he came to Dinamo, from which he was loaned disciplinary to Dinamo Braşov in 1951. Alexandru Ene
Alexandru Ene (also known as Alexandru Ene I; 19 September 1928 – 22 May 2011) was a Romanian football striker. Club career Alexandru Ene was born on 19 September 1928 in Brăila, Romania and he started playing football at junior level at Olympia București from 1941 to 1947, then he went to play Metalul București at senior level in Divizia B, helping the team promote to Divizia A where he made his debut under coach Augustin Botescu on 22 August 1948 in a 6–1 loss against CFR Timișoara. 1957–58 Divizia B
The 1957–58 Divizia B was the 18th season of the second tier of the Romanian football league system. The format with two series has been maintained, both of them having 14 teams. At the end of the season the winners of the series promoted to Divizia A, the last two places from each series relegated to Divizia C. This was the first season played in the autumn-spring system, after seven seasons played in the spring-autumn system, a system imposed by the Soviet influence existing in the country.
