Rodica Simion
Rodica Eugenia Simion (January 18, 1955 – January 7, 2000) was a Romanian-American mathematician. She was the Columbian School Professor of Mathematics at George Washington University. Her research concerned combinatorics: she was a pioneer in the study of permutation patterns, and an expert on noncrossing partitions. Biography Simion was one of the top competitors in the Romanian national International Mathematical Olympiad, mathematical olympiads. She graduated from the University of Bucharest in 1974, and immigrated to the United States in 1976.. She did her graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania, earning a Ph.D. in 1981 under the supervision of Herbert Wilf. Mihaela Runceanu
Mihaela Valentina Runceanu (4 May 1955, Buzău – 1 November 1989, Bucharest) was a Romanian pop singer and vocal techniques teacher. She became a successful vocal singer, her voice being highly appreciated in Romania. Many of her songs were hits, and she released two albums, ''Mihaela Runceanu'' (1987) and ''Pentru voi, muguri noi'' (1989), the latter only one day before she was murdered in her home in Bucharest. Childhood and education Mihaela Runceanu was born in Buzău, but, soon after, her parents moved to Bacău, where she started school. After moving back to Buzău, Mihaela attended the ''Music and Plastic Arts High School'' there. The 1984 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the XXIII Olympiad and also known as Los Angeles 1984) were an international multi-sport event held from July 28 to August 12, 1984, in Los Angeles, California, United States. It marked the second time that Los Angeles had hosted the Games, the first being in 1932. California was the home state of the incumbent U.S. President Ronald Reagan, who officially opened the Games. Canoe Sprint
Canoe sprint is a water sport in which athletes race canoes or kayaks on calm water. Overview Race categories vary by the number of athletes in the boat, the length of the course, and whether the boat is a canoe or kayak. Canoe sprints are sometimes referred to as flat water racing. The distances recognized by the ICF for international canoe sprint races are 200m, 500m, and 1000m. These races take place on straight courses with each boat paddling in its own designated lane. Longer marathon races do exist, notably the 5000m (also an ICF-recognized distance) – these usually have athletes starting in a large pack at a start line before paddling around a set course with marked turning points (there are no assigned lanes). Agafia Orlov-Buhaev-Constantin (born April 19, 1955) is a Romanian sprint canoer who competed from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s. Daniela Crăsnaru
Daniela-Carmen Crăsnaru (born 14 April 1950) is a Romanian poet whose works have been widely translated. She has also written short stories and works for children. From 1990 to 1992, Crăsnaru was a Romanian Chamber of Deputies, deputy in the Romanian parliament, representing the National Salvation Front (Romania), National Salvation Front (FSN). Crăsnaru has authored poetry, short stories and children's books. One of the most important contemporary poets in Romania, she has received international acclaim as a result of the translation of her poetry into at least 15 languages. In 1991, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Romanian Academy where she is now deputy director.
