1955 Cork Senior Hurling Championship
The 1955 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 67th staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The championship began on 27 March 1955 and ended on 16 October 1955. Glen Rovers entered the championship as the defending champions. On 16 October 1955, St. Finbarr's won the championship following a 7–8 to 2–6 defeat of Glen Rovers in a replay of the final. This was their 15th championship title overall and their first title in eight championship seasons. Newtownshandrum GAA
Newtownshandrum GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the small village of Newtownshandrum in County Cork, Ireland. The club, situated in half a parish of about 800 people, was founded in 1896 and is almost exclusively concerned with the game of hurling. In senior hurling Newtownshandrum compete annually in the Cork Senior Club Hurling Championship, which they have won four times as of 2009. The club, one of the few senior teams from the Avondhu division in the northern part of the county, also competes in various other championships in all grades within Cork. Aghabullogue GAA are a Gaelic Athletic Association club in County Cork, Ireland. They are affiliated to the Cork County Board and play in the mid-Cork (Muskerry) division of Cork GAA. Aghabullogue cater for both hurling and Gaelic football. History Aghabullogue have a long tradition of hurling. In 1890, they won the Cork Senior Hurling Championship. By the rules of the GAA at that time, this victory allowed Aghabullogue to go on and represent Cork in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. They later collected a Munster title following a victory over Kerry. There was controversy in the subsequent All-Ireland final when an Aghabullogue men left the field after one of the players had his toe broken by a Wexford man's hurley. Muskerry GAA
Muskerry GAA is a Gaelic football and hurling division located in the middle region of County Cork, Ireland. It is one of eight divisions of Cork GAA County Board. The division includes clubs from areas to the west of Cork city stretching to the county bounds with Kerry. Its name is derived from the ancient Gaelic kingdom of Múscraige which, following the Norman conquest, now encompasses the baronies of Muskerry West and Muskerry East. Mallow (; ) is a town in County Cork, Ireland, approximately thirty-five kilometres north of Cork. Mallow is in the barony of Fermoy. It is the administrative centre of north County Cork, and the Northern Divisional Offices of Cork County Council are located in the town. Mallow is part of the Cork East Dáil constituency. Midleton Hurling and Football Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the town of Midleton in County Cork, Ireland. The club plays in the Imokilly division of Cork GAA. History The concept of a Gaelic Athletic Association was first mooted in 1883 when a sub-committee of the Irish Republican Brotherhood was formed with the ideal of creating a National Athletic body. Midleton man, P.N Fitzgerald was one of the committee members who eventually set up the Gaelic Athletic Association and thus Midleton's love affair and commitment to the G.A.A. was established. Shanballymore GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club, based in the village of Shanballymore, located in the northern part of County Cork, Ireland. The club fields both Gaelic football and hurling teams. It is a member of the Avondhu division of Cork GAA. History The club has been in existence since the 1880s. The club has been primarily a hurling club, but it has played Gaelic football also, though with less success. Records indicate that there was a senior football team in Shanballymore in 1894 but all traces of a team was lost up to the 1940s when a team called Brian Boru's was fielded. Carrigdhoun GAA is one of the eight baronies or Gaelic Athletic Association divisions that make up Cork. The division is made up of eleven Gaelic Athletic Association teams, making it one of the smaller divisions. The division is also known as the South East division. It extends from just south of Cork city down to Ballinspittle in the south of the county.
