As a member of the Hashemite dynasty, the royal family of Jordan since 1921, Hussein was a 40th-generation direct descendant of Muhammad. Hussein was born in Amman as the eldest child of Talal bin Abdullah and Zein al-Sharaf bint Jamil. Talal was then the heir to his own father, King Abdullah I. Hussein began his schooling in Amman, continuing his education abroad. After Talal became king in 1951, Hussein was named heir apparent. The Jordanian Parliament forced Talal to abdicate a year later due to his illness, and a regency council was appointed until Hussein came of age. He was enthroned at the age of 17 on 2 May 1953. 	Fawzi Al-Mulki Fawzi El-Mulki (1910–1962) ( ar, فوزي الملقي) was a Jordanian diplomat and politician. While serving as ambassador to the United Kingdom in the early 1950s, he befriended King Hussein, who was studying there. In 1953 Hussein appointed al-Mulki to be the 10th prime minister, Prime Minister of Jordan. He was dismissed in 1954 after his liberal policies caused riots throughout the country. Career In 1934 he was employed at the Education Department (now ministry of Education). From 1940 to 1947 he was Deputy Food controller, later Economic Adviser to the Government. In 1947 he was successively Consul-General in Cairo and Jordan Minister to Egypt and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan. 	Tawfik Abu Al-Huda Tawfik Abu al-Huda ( ar, توفيق ابو الهدى) (also known as Tawfik Pasha Abul-Huda) (1894 – 1 July 1956) served several terms as the 7th Prime Minister of Jordan. First he served as Prime minister of Transjordan from September 28, 1938, to October 15, 1944, and he served another term from December 28, 1947, to April 12, 1950. Between July 25, 1951, and May 5, 1953, and from May 4, 1954, to May 30, 1955, he served as Prime Minister of Jordan. During his last term as Prime Minister, he tried to consolidate the power of King Hussein by holding parliamentary elections which many accused of being fraudulent. His terms are notable for the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, during which Transjordan conquered the West Bank, and the forced abdication of King Talal.
