Woody Hayes
Wayne Woodrow Hayes (February 14, 1913 – March 12, 1987) was an American football player and coach. He served as the head coach at Denison University (1946–1948), Miami University in Oxford, Ohio (1949–1950), and Ohio State University (1951–1978), compiling a career college football record of 238 wins, 72 losses, and 10 ties. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1983. John Hlay (born May 21, 1930 in Niles, Ohio) is a former college football running back. He was a fullback (American football), fullback and linebacker for the Ohio State University Ohio State Buckeyes, Buckeyes from 1950 to 1952. Football career High school Hlay was an All-State football player at Niles McKinley High School. He was heavily recruited by colleges, and narrowly chose Ohio State over Purdue University after Ohio State head coach Wes Fesler played on Hlay's state loyalties. 1953 New York Giants Season
The New York Giants season was the franchise's 29th season in the National Football League. The Giants were looking to improve on their 7–5 record from the previous season. However, the Giants hit rock bottom in 1953, losing their first three games of the season on their way to a disappointing 3–9 record and in 5th place in their division. The season included a 62–14 loss to the Cleveland Browns, the 62 points being the most points surrendered in franchise history at the time, until it was surpassed by the 1966 team that gave up 72 points to Washington in the highest scoring game in NFL history. Head coach Steve Owen was fired at the end of the season. After his departure, rumors emerged that future legendary coach Vince Lombardi was a candidate to replace him as the next head coach. Tony Curcillo
Anthony Curcillo Jr. (May 27, 1931 – December 8, 2020) was an American Grey Cup champion football player in the National Football League and Canadian Football League. College years Curcillo was the starting quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes football team in 1950 and 1951 and played linebacker, tailback, and center in 1952. Although recruited by Wes Fesler, he would become Woody Hayes' first starting quarterback at Ohio State when Hayes was hired in 1951. Curcillo's running back from during the 1950 and 1951 seasons was Vic Janowicz, the recipient of the 1950 Heisman Trophy and Curcillo's former teammate at Elyria High School. The 1952 Michigan Wolverines football team represented the University of Michigan in the 1952 Big Ten Conference football season. In its fifth year under head coach Bennie Oosterbaan, Michigan compiled a 5–4 record (4–2 against conference opponents), tied for fourth place in the Big Ten, and outscored opponents by a combined total of 207 to 134. Defensive end Merritt Green was the team captain, and quarterback Tony Branoff received the team's most valuable player award. Lowell Perry was selected by the Newspaper Enterprise Association (NEA) as a first-team defensive back on the 1952 College Football All-America Team.
