The 1952 season was the 22nd completed season of Finnish Football League Championship, known as the Mestaruussarja. Overview The Mestaruussarja was administered by the Finnish Football Association and the competition's 1952 season was contested by 10 teams. KTP Kotka won the championship and the two lowest placed teams of the competition, TPK Turku and TPS Turku, were relegated to the Suomensarja. Mestaruussarja (Championship series) was the top division of Finland, Finnish association football, football from 1930 to 1989. It was replaced by Veikkausliiga in 1990. In 1930 league format was used for the first time to decide the Finnish champion. Before that from 1908 to 1929 the championship was decided with cup competition. The league was dominated by clubs from Helsinki, Turku and Vyborg. The first champion was HIFK, HIFK Fotboll from Helsinki. In 1935 four best clubs were from Helsinki and in 1934 and 1936 top three clubs also came from Helsinki. From 1908 to 1940 the championship went outside Helsinki on only six occasions. Kuopio was the first inland city to get into the league when Koparit, Pallotoverit were promoted in 1938. Jäntevä Kotka
Kotkan Jäntevä is a Finnish football club from the city of Kotka. Club was founded as a general sports club in 1940 but nowadays focuses only on football. Jäntevä was founded in Metsola district, a continental part of Kotka. Club has a number of youth teams for both boys and girls and for senior players. Club has played a total of 4 seasons in finnish premier division Mestaruussarja. In the end of 1953 season they were tied in points with VIFK, championship was decided on rematch in neutral ground in Turku, Jäntevä led the match at half time and controversially was denied a penalty while leading the match, but ended up losing 1-3. KIF Helsinki
Kronohagens Idrottsförening (abbreviated KIF or Kiffen) ( en, Kruununhaka Sports Association) is a sports club from Helsinki, Finland. The club was founded on 27 September 1908, and has been mainly known for the achievements of its association football and Team handball, handball teams. FC Haka
FC Haka is a Finnish football club based in the industry town of Valkeakoski. It is currently competing in Finland's premier division of football, Veikkausliiga. It is one of the most successful clubs in Finland, with nine Finnish championships and 12 Finnish Cup wins. History Haka has historically had close ties with the paper industry in the Valkeakoski area, and it is still sponsored by UPM Kymmene. The club was founded as ''Valkeakosken Haka'' in 1934. Vaasan Palloseura (or VPS) is a Finnish football club, based in Vaasa. It currently plays in the first tier of Finnish football (''Veikkausliiga''). The club's current manager is Jussi Nuorela. The club plays its home matches at Hietalahti. VPS played twice in the UEFA Cup in 1998–99 and in 1999–00, but were knocked out in the 2nd Qualifying Round by Grazer AK of Austria and in the 1st Qualifying Round by St Johnstone of Scotland. KuPS
Kuopion Palloseura (or KuPS) is a Finnish football club, based in the ninth most populated city of Finland, Kuopio. KuPS plays in Finland's Premier League, Veikkausliiga. KuPS has won the Finnish championship six times, the Finnish Cup 4 times and the Finnish League Cup once. KuPS also holds the Finnish club record of the most consecutive seasons in the top flight, from 1949 to 1992. The team is placed fourth in the all-time Finnish Premier League honour table. Pyrkivä Turku, Finnish ''Turun Pyrkivä'', earlier Maarian Pyrkivä (''pyrkivä'' meaning "endeavouring") is a sports club from Turku, Finland, which was founded in 1906 by sportsmen who represented artistic gymnastics. The club was founded as a section of the Työväenyhdistys Tarmo (‘Workers Association Vigour’ or ‘Stamina’ of Raunistula, Maaria. In 1912 the club became independent of its parent organisation, and green was chosen as its colour. In the early years the most popular sports were athletics and wrestling, but perhaps surprisingly, drama was also popular, and at best the club presented 16 different plays per year, and it also arranged screenings of movies. VIFK Vaasa
Vasa IFK (VIFK) is a Finnish football club, located in Vaasa. It was founded in 1900. The club changed its name in 1988 after a merger with another club, BK-48, and was called BK-IFK during the late 1900s. The name was changed back to VIFK in year 2000. Their representative team moved up to Ykkönen at end of season 2005 which is the second-highest level in Finland. The visit lasted three years and the team was relegated to Kakkonen after finishing 12th place in the 2008 season. The club has a great history, but has yet to achieve the same kind of success as in the mid-20th century. Vasa IFK have won the Finnish championship three times, in 1944, 1946 and 1953. Suomensarja (sometimes also ''Suomi-sarja'') (‘Finland Series’) was the second highest level of league format association football in Finland from 1936 to 1972. Before the inauguration of the Suomensarja, there had been, in 1930–1935, special qualification matches for the right to play in the Mestaruussarja, ‘Championship series’. A proper league format competition on this level began in 1936 with the 1936 Suomensarja. In the autumn of 1969, the Finnish football underwent a league system reform, and the Suomensarja was renamed ''II divisioona'', or 2nd Division, with regional sections. In 1973, this level of football in Finland became nationwide, and the new name was 1. divisioona, present-day Ykkönen.
