1952 Individual Speedway World Championship
The 1952 Individual Speedway World Championship was the seventh edition of the official World Championship to determine the world champion rider. Australian rider Jack Young became the first rider to win a second title (and the first to win two in a row) when he won his second straight World Championship after scoring 14 points. Second was Welshman Freddie Williams on 13 points, with England's Bob Oakley third on 12 points. Leif Hveem known as Basse Hveem (1920-1964) was an international speedway rider from Norway. Speedway career Hveem won the gold medal at the European Longtrack Champion in the 1957 Individual Long Track European Championship. In 1953, he won the second Continental Speedway Final The Continental Final was a Motorcycle speedway Final sanctioned by the FIM as the qualifying round for the Speedway World Championship between 1976 and 2000. Individual Speedway World Championship
The World Championship of Speedway is an international competition between the highest-ranked motorcycle speedway riders of the world, run under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). The first official championships were held in 1936. Today, this official FIM championship is organised as a series of Speedway Grand Prix events, where points are awarded according to performance in the event and tallied up at the end of each season. However, up to 1994, it was run as a single-night event after qualifying rounds during the season, leading up to a big final of 20 heats, where points were awarded according to riders' heat placings and then tallied up at the end. Before the World Championship received its formal recognition from the ACU and the FIM in 1936, other unofficial Speedway World Championships were staged between 1931 and 1935, in Europe, South America and Australasia. Anthony Robert Lewis CBE (born 6 July 1938) is a Welsh former cricketer, who captained England, became a journalist, went on to become the face of BBC Television cricket coverage between 1986 and 1998, and became president of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). Early life Tony Lewis was born in Swansea, the first of two children of Wilfrid Lewis and his wife Marjorie (''née'' Flower). The family moved to Neath after the Second World War. Following his service in the war as a major, Wilfrid managed an insurance office in Neath, and then joined the Civil Service. Tony Lewis attended the Gnoll School in Neath and Neath Grammar School for Boys, where he learned the violin exceptionally well and was selected to play first violin for the National Youth Orchestra of Wales, as well as playing cricket and rugby for the school. John Robert Vickers (Ken) McKinlay (7 June 1928 – 9 February 2003) was an international speedway rider, captaining Scotland, England, Great Britain and Europe teams. He also finished on the rostrum of the British Speedway Championship finals twice, second in 1964 and third in 1965. His nickname Hurri-Ken was given to him by famous speedway promoter Johnnie Hoskins. Friedrich "Fritz" Dirtl (1928–1956) was an international speedway rider from Austria. Speedway career Dirtl was a two times champion of Austria after winning the Austrian Individual Speedway Championship in 1949 and 1951. He was also a six times Longtrack champion of Austria. Dirtl was tragically killed competing in the 1956 Individual Speedway World Championship, at the Continental final stage. Falköping
Falköping is a locality and the seat of Falköping Municipality in Västra Götaland County, Sweden. It had 16,350 inhabitants in 2010. History The town of Falköping was first spoken of in the Icelandic ''Rimbegla'' (around 1100 A.D.), and is mentioned in the Westrogothic law. It was also an important site of pilgrimage due to its 12th-century church dedicated to Saint Olaf (''Sankt Olofs kyrka'').
