Saskatchewan Roughriders
The Saskatchewan Roughriders are a professional Canadian football team based in Regina, Saskatchewan. The Roughriders compete in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member club of the league's West Division. The Roughriders were founded in 1910 as the Regina Rugby Club. Montreal Alouettes
The Montreal Alouettes (Canadian French, French: Les Alouettes de Montréal) are a professional Canadian football team based in Montreal, Quebec. Founded in 1946, the team has folded and been revived twice. Hal Waggoner
James Harold Waggoner (January 18, 1930 – December 4, 2004) was a Canadian football player, all star and Grey Cup champion who played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He won the Grey Cup with them in 1957. He also played two games for the Toronto Argonauts in 1960. He played college football at Tulane University. After his football career, he was a teacher in Florida. He died of complications during surgery in Fort Myers, Florida in 2004. Bill Bass
William Bass (1921 – September 28, 1967) was an all-star and Grey Cup champion running back in the Canadian Football League and one of the first players to break the colour barrier in Canadian football. Bass attended University of Nevada, Reno and Tennessee State University, and was surrounded in controversy when a Nevada, Reno game was canceled because Mississippi State University's football team would not play them because Bass (and another teammate) were "Negroes". He started his pro career with the Chicago Rockets of the AAFC, where in 1947 he rushed for 44 yards and caught 8 passes for 79 yards. In 1948, Bass moved to Canada, where he played 11 games with the Montreal Alouettes. Ulysses Curtis
Ulysses "Crazy Legs" Curtis (May 10, 1926 – October 6, 2013) was an American professional football player who was a running back in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Toronto Argonauts from 1950 to 1954. He won two Grey Cups with Toronto in 1950 and 1952. Curtis was long considered the Argonauts' first black player. Bernie Custis
Bernard Eugene Custis (September 23, 1928 – February 23, 2017) was an American and Canadian football player who went on to a distinguished coaching career. He is known for having been the first black professional quarterback in the modern era and first in professional Canadian football, starting for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 1951. In 2019, Bernie Custis Secondary School officially opened in Hamilton, Ontario.
