Ekstraklasa
Poland Ekstraklasa (), meaning "Extra Class" in Polish, named PKO Ekstraklasa since the 2019–20 season due to its sponsorship by PKO Bank Polski, is the top Polish professional league for men's association football teams. Contested by 18 clubs, operating a system of promotion and relegation with the I liga, seasons start in July, and end in May or June the following year. Teams play a total of 34 games each. Games are played on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. The winner of the Ekstraklasa qualifies for the Polish SuperCup. The league is now operated by the Ekstraklasa Spółka Akcyjna. ŁKS Łódź (''Łódzki Klub Sportowy Łódź''; ) is a Polish sports club based in Łódź. Mieczysław Nowak (22 December 1936 – 17 May 2006) was a Polish featherweight weightlifter. He competed at the 1964, 1968 and 1972 Olympics and finished in third, fifth and seventh place, respectively. He won one gold (1970) and two silver medals (1965 and 1966) at world championships, and his Olympic bronze also counted as the world championships bronze in 1964. At the European championships, he won three gold (1965, 1966 and 1968), one silver (1970) and 1 bronze medals (1972). Nationally he won four titles (1965–1967, 1970) and set thirteen records. Tadeusz Hogendorf
Tadeusz Hogendorf (19 December 1918 – 12 June 2010) was a former Polish international footballer who played in midfield as well as being a forward. Biography Hogendorf was born in Rzeszów just after the conclusion of World War I when Poland became an independent state. Hogendorf started playing football with his local team Resovia Rzeszów, breaking into the first team in 1936. In 1937, Resovia were competing for promotion to the I liga, needing to beat Rewere Stanisławów in the final game to be promoted. Due to the club having no manager to organise the players, Hogendorf and Stanisław Baran went missing a few days before the game spending time with a local counts daughters instead of focusing on the game. Resovia ended up drawing the game 3–3 and failed to win promotion. In 1938, Hogendorf joined Warszawianka who played in the I liga. Marian Mikołaj Łącz (5 December 1921 - 2 August 1984) was a former Polish international footballer who played as a forward, and later a theater and film actor. Football Born in Rzeszów, Łącz started his footballing career with his local team Resovia Rzeszów. The outbreak of World War 2 put his footballing career on hold until 1944, when he started playing for Sokół Rzeszów with his brother, Tadeusz. In 1946 he moved to Gdańsk to play for Lechia Gdańsk. He made his Lechia debut on 9 September 1945 against WKS 16 Dyw. Gdańsk in a 9–1 win. While being Łącz's first game for the club, it was also the club's first ever competitive game. He spent 6 months with Lechia, during which time he made 10 appearances and scored 25 goals, scoring six hat-trick in his 10 games and finishing as the club's top scorer for the season. Gerard Cieślik (27 April 1927 – 3 November 2013), also known as Gienek, was a football player of Ruch Chorzów (1949-1955 Unia Chorzów, 1956 Unia-Ruch Chorzów). Playing for the Poland national football team, he is most noted for having scored two goals against the Soviet Union on 20 October 1957 at Stadion Śląski. The rather small striker (163 cm, 59 kg) was capped 45 times and scored 27 goals. He also played for Poland at the 1952 Summer Olympics. Biography Born in Wielkie Hajduki, now a part of Chorzów, he spent his entire career with Ruch, from July 1939 to June 1959, a tenure which included victory in the 1951 Polish Cup, and 3 Poland Master titles (1951, 1952, 1953).
