A referendum on militarisation and peace was held in East Germany on 5 June 1951.Deutsche Demokratische Republik, 5. Juni 1951 : Gegen Remilitarisierung, für Friedensvertrag 1951 Direct Democracy Voters were asked "Are you against the remilitarisation of Germany and for the conclusion of a peace treaty with Germany in the year 1951?". East Germany, officially the German Democratic Republic (GDR; german: Deutsche Demokratische Republik, , DDR, ), was a country that existed from its creation on 7 October 1949 until its dissolution on 3 October 1990. In these years the state was a part of the Eastern Bloc in the Cold War.
