The 1950 UCI Track Cycling World Championships were the World Championship for track cycling. They took place in Rocourt, Belgium in 1950. Rocourt (; wa, RôcouJean Haust, «Rôcou», ''Dictionnaire liégeois'', Liège, Editorial H. Vaillant-Carmanne, 1933, pàgina 563) is a district of the city of Liège, Wallonia, located in the province of Liège, Belgium. It is a former municipality which has been part of the municipality of Liège since 1977. Jan Pronk (cyclist)
Jan Pronk (October 19, 1918 – March 15, 2016) was a Dutch professional cyclist who specialized in motor-paced racing. In this discipline he won five medals at the world championships A world championship is generally an international competition open to elite competitors from around the world, representing their nations, and winning such an event will be considered the highest or near highest achievement in the sport, game, ..., including a gold medal in 1951. That gold medal was controversial because of the assistance of his compatriot Kees Bakker. At the end of the race, Bakker, a 35-year-old veteran at the time, was exactly one lap behind Pronk, who was in the lead. Then, up to the finish line, Bakker rode behind Pronk, covering him from attacks by the competitors. There were speculations that Bakker was paid by Pronk before the race; nevertheless, these tactics were then banned at competitions. Guido Messina (4 January 1931 – 10 January 2020) was an Italian road and track cyclist. He was born in Monreale, Italy, on 4 January 1931. On track he won five world titles in the individual 4000 m pursuit between 1948 and 1956, and a gold medal with the Italian team at the 1952 Olympics (individual pursuit became an Olympic event only in 1964, when Messina retired from cycling). Between 1954 and 1963 he rode professionally and won the first stage of the 1955 Giro d'Italia The 1955 Giro d'Italia was the 38th edition of the Giro d'Italia, one of cycling's Grand Tours. Sydney Patterson (also known as Sid Patterson, 14 August 1927 – 29 November 1999) was a world champion amateur and professional track cyclist from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. While a teenager, Patterson won every Victorian and Australian title between 1,000 metres and ten miles (16.1 km). He represented Australia in cycling at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. In 1949 he won every Australian track championship in the sprint, time trial, 1 mile, and 5 mile (8.05 km) events.
