1950 College World Series
The College World Series was the fourth NCAA-sanctioned baseball tournament that determined a national champion. The tournament was held as the conclusion of the 1950 NCAA baseball season and was played at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska from June 15 to June 23. It was the first College World Series to be held at the stadium, which hosted the event through 2010. The tournament's champion was the Texas Longhorns, coached by Bibb Falk. The Most Outstanding Player was Ray VanCleef of Rutgers. The championship was the second consecutive for the Longhorns. The tournament consisted of no preliminary round of play, as teams were selected directly into the College World Series. From 1947 to 1949, there likewise was no preliminary round, as the teams were chosen based on committee selections, conference champions, and district playoffs. The 1950 Texas Longhorns baseball team represented the University of Texas in the 1950 NCAA baseball season. The Longhorns played their home games at Clark Field. Tilden Campbell
Tilden "Happy" Campbell (November 21, 1908 – February 23, 1963) was both a former player and head coach for the Alabama baseball team and both a player and assistant coach for the Alabama football team Coaching career Football After his discharge from the Navy, Campbell returned to Alabama as backfield coach in 1945. In 1946, former Alabama assistant coach Harold Drew, in his first year as head coach, hired Campbell to serve as backfield coach at Ole Miss. When Drew returned to Alabama as head coach in 1947, Campbell followed where he resumed his position as backfield coach and retained it through the 1955 season. Baseball In Spring 1935, Campbell served as manager for the Troy Trojans of the then Dixie Amateur League and lead the squad to the league championship. Southwest Conference
The Southwest Conference (SWC) was an NCAA Division I college athletic conference in the United States that existed from 1914 to 1996. Composed primarily of schools from Texas, at various times the conference included schools from Oklahoma and Arkansas. For most of its history, the core members of the conference were Texas-based schools plus one in Arkansas: Baylor University, Rice University, Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M University, Texas Christian University, Texas Tech University, the University of Arkansas and the University of Texas at Austin. George Case (baseball)
George Washington Case (November 11, 1915 – January 23, 1989) was an American left and right fielder in Major League Baseball who played most of his career for the Washington Senators. Possibly the sport's fastest player between the 1920s and 1950s, he is the only player to lead the major leagues in stolen bases five consecutive times (–), and his six overall league titles tied Ty Cobb's American League record; that mark was later broken by Luis Aparicio. His 349 career steals ranked ninth in AL history at the end of his career, and were the most by any player from 1930 to 1960; his 321 steals with the Senators were the third most in Washington history. Mark Duncan (coach)
Mark C. Duncan (born c. 1919) is a former American football player, coach, and administrator, and basketball coach. He served as the head football coach and the interim head basketball coach at the University of Denver in 1943. Duncan later embarked on a career in the National Football League (NFL). He was as an assistant coach for the San Francisco 49ers from 1955 to 1962. In 1964, Duncan was named the NFL's supervisor of officials, and three years later, he was named the League's director of personnel.
