The 1st Richmond Trophy was a non-championship Formula One motor race held at Goodwood Circuit on 18 April 1949. The race was held over 10 laps and was won by Reg Parnell in a Maserati 4CLT/48. Goodwood Circuit
Goodwood Circuit is a historic venue for both two- and four-wheeled motorsport in the United Kingdom. The circuit is situated near Chichester, West Sussex, close to the south coast of England, on the estate of Goodwood House, and completely encircles Chichester/Goodwood Airport. This is the racing circuit dating from 1948, not to be confused with the separate hillclimb course located at Goodwood House and first used in 1936. Guy Gale was a British racing driver, as well as a Major in the British Army. Racing Driver Guy was a competent racing driver who raced mainly between 1949 and 1953. The 3rd Grand Prix de Paris was a Formula One motor race held on 24 April 1949 at the Autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry, in Montlhéry near Paris, France. The 50-lap race was won by Talbot-Lago driver Philippe Étancelin. Yves Giraud-Cabantous and Georges Grignard shared another Talbot-Lago for second place and Johnny Claes was third in a Maserati. Richmond Trophy
The Richmond Trophy was an international figure skating competition for ladies' singles held annually from 1949 to 1980 at the Richmond Ice Rink in Twickenham, London. It was the only invitational international competition (as opposed to the ISU Championships) held on a regular basis in the post-war years. The competition was sponsored by the National Skating Association and was largely due to the activity of Arnold Gerschwiler, coach of many champions at the Richmond rink. At the last event in November 1980, participation was down to only eleven competitors, attributed to scheduling conflicts with the growing number of other international competitions such as Skate Canada International. Tony Rolt
Major Anthony Peter Roylance Rolt, MC & Bar, (16 October 1918 – 6 February 2008) was a British racing driver, soldier and engineer. A war hero, Rolt maintained a long connection with the sport, albeit behind the scenes. The Ferguson 4WD project he was involved in paid off with spectacular results, and he was involved in other engineering projects. At his death, he was the longest surviving participant of the first ever World Championship Grand Prix at Silverstone in 1950. He was one of the last prewar winners remaining too – he won the 1939 British Empire Trophy, aged just 20 in 1939 – this was after he started his career in 1935, as a 16-year-old, in a 3-wheeler Morgan in speed trials. Bob Gerard
Frederick Roberts Gerard (19 January 1914, Leicester – 26 January 1990, South Croxton, Leicestershire) was a racing driver and businessman from England. He participated in numerous top-level motor racing events on either side of World War II, including eight World Championship Formula One Grands Prix, scoring no championship points. Early career Bob Gerard was born into a family well acquainted with mechanical transport. His family's business was Parr's Ltd., initially a bicycle manufacturer who, like many others such as Triumph, moved into the newly evolving motor vehicle market at the turn of the 20th century. Parr's, though, was far from a high-performance firm, concentrating mostly on haulage. David Murray (racing Driver)
David Murray (28 December 1909 – 5 April 1973) was a British racing driver from Scotland. He participated in five Formula One World Championship Grands Prix, debuting on 13 May 1950, and also founded the Ecurie Ecosse Scottish motor racing team, based at Merchiston Mews in Edinburgh. Murray was a chartered accountant by profession and raced an English Racing Automobiles, ERA and subsequently a Maserati 4CL and 4CLT, Maserati 4CLT both domestically and in European events, before forming Ecurie Ecosse in 1952. He also participated in rallies and hill-climbs. After one World Championship event, for Ecosse, Murray retired as a driver to concentrate on running the team. Ecurie Ecosse won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Le Mans 24-hour race in both 1956 24 Hours of Le Mans, 1956 and 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans, 1957 each time with a Jaguar D-Type.
