1948–49 Panhellenic Championship
The 1948–49 Panhellenic Championship was the 15th season of the highest football league of Greece. The clubs that participated were the champions from the 3 founding football associations of the HFF: Athens, Piraeus and Macedonia. Panathinaikos won the championship, due to a better goal ratio than Olympiacos. The point system was: ''Win: 3 points'' - ''Draw: 2 points'' - ''Loss: 1 point''. Panhellenic Championship
The Super League Greece 1 ( el, Ελληνική Σούπερ Λιγκ 1), or Super League 1, is the highest professional association football league in Greece. The league was formed on 16 July 2006 and replaced ''Alpha Ethniki'' at the top of the Greek football league system. It consists of 14 teams and runs from August to May, with teams playing 26 games. As of May 2022, Super League Greece is ranked 15th in the UEFA ranking of leagues, based on performances in European competitions over the last five years. Since the foundation of the first official Panhellenic Championship in 1927, only six clubs have won the title. The current champions are Olympiacos, based in Piraeus. Esperos (in el, Π.Ο.Κ. Έσπερος) is a sports club in Kallithea (within greater Athens, Greece), founded in 1943 during the Nazi occupation of the country (1941–44). History Started as a football club and participated during World War II in the games organised by the "Union of Greek Athletes" (founded by Gregoris Lambrakis) seeking finance in order to fund public messes for the starving population. Alekos Chatzistavridis
Alekos Chatzistavridis ( el, Αλέκος Χατζησταυρίδης; 1 January 1915 – 1 January 1998) was a Greek footballer who played as a forward and a later manager. His real name was ''"Stavridis"''. Club career Chatzistavridis started football at Vyzantion Piraeus. In 1933 he joined AEK Athens and changed his name to ''"Chatzistavridis"'', because he officially belonged to his previous club. He established himself as one of the main attackers of the club. On 28 May 1939, he opened the score in the Greek Cup final, defeating PAOK by 2–1. He played with the "yellow-blacks" for a decade and won 2 consecutive Panhellenic Championships, 1 Cup and 1 Athens FCA Championship in 1940, including the first domestic double in by a Greek club in 1939.
