1948 Mestaruussarja
The 1948 season was the 18th completed season of the Finnish Football League Championship known as the Mestaruussarja. Overview The Mestaruussarja was administered by the Finnish Football Association and the competition's 1948 season was divided into two groups: the Palloliiton league and the Työväen Urheiluliiton league, with the leading 6 teams from each group progressing to a final group along with the 4 leading teams from the Suomensarja. After the series had been played, VPS Vaasa and TPS Turku were tied with each having 24 points. These two teams then faced each other in a match that decided the championship. VPS won the match and the championship 3–0. The six lowest placed teams in the final group were relegated to the Suomensarja. Mestaruussarja
Mestaruussarja (Championship series) was the top division of Finland, Finnish association football, football from 1930 to 1989. It was replaced by Veikkausliiga in 1990. In 1930 league format was used for the first time to decide the Finnish champion. Before that from 1908 to 1929 the championship was decided with cup competition. The league was dominated by clubs from Helsinki, Turku and Vyborg. The first champion was HIFK, HIFK Fotboll from Helsinki. In 1935 four best clubs were from Helsinki and in 1934 and 1936 top three clubs also came from Helsinki. From 1908 to 1940 the championship went outside Helsinki on only six occasions. Kuopio was the first inland city to get into the league when Koparit, Pallotoverit were promoted in 1938. TuTo Turku
Turun Toverit (TuTo) is a sports club based in Turku, Finland. It was established in 1929. Today it is best known of its ice hockey section TuTo Hockey. Other sections include sports like football, basketball, volleyball, wrestling and athletics. TuTo is a member of Finnish Workers' Sports Federation. Most famous TuTo-athlete of all-time is Voitto Hellstén, the 400 metres bronze medalist at the 1956 Summer Olympics. Ice hockey TuTo Hockey plays currently in the Finnish second level Mestis. Ponnistus
Helsingin Ponnistus (abbreviated Ponnistus) is a football club from Helsinki, Finland. The club was formed in 1887 making it the oldest football club in Finland. The men's first team currently plays in the Nelonen (Fourth Division) and their home ground is at the Haapaniemen Kenttä. Background The sports club was founded on 6 September 1887 by Viktor Damm (1864–1944) supported by 5 other young men. In its early days the club specialised in gymnastics and athletics. Kiri Kotka
Kotkan Kiri is a Finnish sports club from the city of Kotka. Club participates in gymnastics, ice hockey and association football. They were originally called ''Metsolan Kiri'', named after Metsola district of Kotka. Background They were formed in 1935 after internal political disputes between social democrats and communists had torn Kotkan Riento apart and left Metsola area, in which Riento had had a local section, without a sports club, Riento members from other areas in Kotka had already formed and joined other clubs, like Kotkan Työväen Palloilijat. Idea for a new club came from local shopkeeper Eino Lehtinen, who called locals for a founding meeting. Kiri joined Finnish Workers' Sports Federation after formation. Turun Kisa-Veikot (TuKV for short) is a sports club from Turku, Finland. The club was founded in the then-independent municipality, Maaria, area where they still operate and own a club house. It was established in 1930 as ''Maarian Kisa-Veikot''. Sudet Helsinki
Sudet (''"Wolves"'' in English) is a sports club from Kouvola, Finland, playing bandy and association football. The club was formed in 1912 and was based firstly in Viipuri ( Vyborg), then in Helsinki, before finally moving to Kouvola. Sudet formerly played in the Bandyliiga, the top bandy league in Finland, and has become Finnish champions many times. As of 2014, the club is the reigning national champion in women's bandy.
