1944 Army Cadets Football Team
The 1944 Army Cadets football team was an American football team that represented the United States Military Academy as an independent during the 1944 college football season. In their fourth season under head coach Earl Blaik, the Cadets compiled a perfect 9–0 record and outscored opponents by a total of 504 to 35. Army's 1944 season was part of a 32-game undefeated streak that included the entire 1944, 1945, and 1946 seasons. In the final AP Poll released on December 5, Army was ranked No. 1 nationally with 1,165 points, more than 200 points ahead of No. 2 Ohio State. In retroactive analyses, Army has also been recognized as the 1944 national champion by most other selectors, including the Billingsley Report, Boand System, College Football Researchers Association, Dunkel System, Helms Athletic Foundation, Houlgate System, National Championship Foundation, Poling System, and Sagarin Ratings. Earl Blaik
Earl Henry "Red" Blaik (February 15, 1897 – May 6, 1989) was an American football player, coach, college athletics administrator, and United States Army officer. He served as the head football coach at Dartmouth College from 1934 to 1940 and at the United States Military Academy from 1941 to 1958, compiling a career college football record of 166–48–14. His Army Black Knights football, Army football teams won three consecutive College football national championships in NCAA Division I FBS, national championships in 1944, 1945 and 1946. Joe Stanowicz
Joseph John Stanowicz (November 4, 1921 – September 21, 1999) was an American football player. He attended the United States Military Academy where he played at the guard position for the Army Black Knights football team. He was selected by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), the International News Service (INS), and the United Press (UP) as a first-team player on the 1944 College Football All-America Team. Doug Kenna
Edgar Douglas Kenna II (June 11, 1924 – January 28, 2013) was an American football player and businessman. Biography College football Kenna played his freshman year at the University of Mississippi for the Ole Miss Rebels. However, following his freshman year, Kenna received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point where he played for Army as a sophomore, junior and senior. Coached by Earl Blaik, he was a quarterback and halfback. In 1944, he quarterbacked West Point's undefeated national championship team. Barney Poole
George Barney Poole (October 29, 1923 – April 12, 2005) was an American football end in the National Football League for the New York Yanks, the Dallas Texans, the Baltimore Colts, and the New York Giants. Poole also played football in the All-America Football Conference for the New York Yankees. Felix Anthony "Doc" Blanchard (December 11, 1924 – April 19, 2009) was an American football player and serviceman who became the first junior to win the Heisman Trophy and Maxwell Award, and was the first football player to win the James E.
