1943–44 Ranji Trophy
The 1943–44 Ranji Trophy was the tenth season of the Ranji Trophy. Western India won their only title defeating Bengal in the final. This season could be considered as the arbitrary starting point of high scoring in Indian domestic cricket that would last till the end of the decade. In the final of the Bombay Pentangular in early December 1943, Vijay Merchant and Vijay Hazare scored 250* and 309. It was the prelude to Merchant setting a new Ranji and Indian first class record of 359* for Bombay against Maharashtra between 31 December 1943, and 2 January 1944, at the Brabourne Stadium in Bombay. Highlights * The Bombay-Maharashtra match set several national records. :* Bombay made 735, the highest score in Indian first class cricket bettering 703 by Bengal Cyclone XI in 1942-43. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the national governing body for cricket in India. Its headquarters are situated at Cricket centre, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Sind cricket team was an Indian domestic cricket team representing the British Indian province of Sind. The team played in the Ranji Trophy from 1934–35 season until 1947–48 season in British India, before the partition of India. The team first played first-class cricket in Ranji Trophy in the 1934 season against Western India team. The team continued to appear in the Ranji Trophy until the 1947/48 season, when it played its final first-class match against Bombay. The Hyderabad cricket team is a domestic cricket team based in the city of Hyderabad, Telangana, run by the Hyderabad Cricket Association. It is part of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group and has seen scattered success over its many years in the Ranji Trophy circuit. Central Provinces And Berar Cricket Team
The Central Provinces and Berar cricket team represented the Indian province and state of Central Provinces and Berar in the Ranji Trophy from 1934–35 to 1949–50. After the state was dissolved and redistributed into several states in 1950, the Central Provinces and Berar team was superseded by the Madhya Pradesh team, beginning with the 1950–51 Ranji Trophy, and the Vidarbha team, beginning with the 1957–58 Ranji Trophy. Northern India Cricket Team
The Northern India cricket team was an Indian domestic cricket team that competed in the Ranji Trophy between 1934–35 and 1946–47. It played its home matches in Lahore. Captained by George Abell, Northern India finished runner-up in the first Ranji Trophy in 1934–35. In the 10 seasons in which it competed in the Ranji Trophy, Northern India played 23 matches, winning 12, losing 9 and drawing 4, and reaching the semi-finals seven times. After the establishment of Pakistan in 1947, players from Northern India formed the nucleus of the Pakistan cricket team. Southern Punjab Cricket Team (India)
The Southern Punjab cricket team was an Indian domestic team representing the southern part of the Indian state of Punjab during the time of the British Raj and later the southern part of its Indian successor, following the partition of India. History The team first played first-class cricket in 1926 against a touring Marylebone Cricket Club team. Southern Punjab was one of the teams that competed in the inaugural season of the Ranji Trophy in 1934-35, and it continued to contest the Ranji Trophy until 1951-52. The Delhi cricket team is a first-class cricket team based in Delhi, run by the Delhi District Cricket Association, that plays in India's first class competition, the Ranji Trophy and limited-overs Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The Uttar Pradesh cricket team, formerly United Provinces Cricket Team, is a domestic cricket team which is based in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, run by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association.
