Milton Caniff
Milton Arthur Paul Caniff (; February 28, 1907 – April 3, 1988) was an People of the United States, American cartoonist famous for the ''Terry and the Pirates (comic strip), Terry and the Pirates'' and ''Steve Canyon'' comic strips. Biography Caniff was born in Hillsboro, Ohio. He was an Eagle Scout (Boy Scouts of America), Eagle Scout and a recipient of the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award from the Boy Scouts of America. Caniff did cartoons for local newspapers while studying at Stivers High School (now Stivers School for the Arts) in Dayton Ohio. At Ohio State University, Caniff joined the Sigma Chi fraternity and later illustrated for ''The Magazine of Sigma Chi'' and ''The Norman Shield'' (the fraternity's pledgeship/reference manual). Graduating in 1930, Caniff began at the ''Columbus Dispatch'' where he worked with the noted cartoonists Billy Ireland and Dudley Fisher, but Caniff's position was eliminated during the Great Depression. Human Torch Comics
The Human Torch, also known as Jim Hammond (originally, Hamond), is a fictional character, fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer-artist Carl Burgos, he first appearance, first appeared in ''Marvel Mystery Comics, Marvel Comics'' #1 (Oct. 1939), published by Marvel's predecessor, Timely Comics. The "Human" Torch was actually an Android (robot), android created by scientist Phineas Horton. He possessed the ability to surround himself with fire and control flames. In his earliest appearances, he was portrayed as a science fiction monstrosity, but quickly became a hero and adopted a secret identity as a police officer for the New York City Police Department. ''Le Soir'' (, "The Evening") is a French-language Belgian daily newspaper. Founded in 1887 by Emile Rossel, it was intended as a politically independent source of news. It is one of the most popular Francophone newspapers in Belgium, competing with ''La Libre Belgique'', and since 2005 has appeared in Berliner format. Young Allies is the name of three fictional superhero teams appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Golden Age The Golden Age's Young Allies were a gang of kids who fought the Axis. Their line-up included the two key sidekicks (Bucky Barnes and Toro) of then-prominent Timely Comics heroes Captain America and the Human Torch. ''Superman'' is an ongoing American comic book series featuring the DC Comics superhero Superman as its main protagonist. Superman began as one of several anthology features in the National Periodical Publications comic book ''Action Comics'' #1 in June 1938. ''Star Spangled Comics'' was a comics anthology published by DC Comics which ran for 130 issues from October 1941 to July 1952. It was then retitled ''Star Spangled War Stories'' and lasted until issue #204 (February–March 1977). Publication history ''Star Spangled Comics'' debuted with an October 1941 cover date. The series began as a superhero title featuring the adventures of the Sylvester Pemberton, Star-Spangled Kid and Pat Dugan, Stripesy who appeared until #86 (November 1948).
