Christian X Of Denmark
Christian X ( da, Christian Carl Frederik Albert Alexander Vilhelm; 26 September 1870 – 20 April 1947) was King of Denmark from 1912 to his death in 1947, and the only King of Iceland as Kristján X, in the form of a personal union rather than a real union between 1918 and 1944. He was a member of the House of Glücksburg, a branch of the House of Oldenburg, and the first monarch since King Frederick VII born into the Danish royal family; both his father and his grandfather were born as princes of a ducal family from Schleswig. Among his siblings was King Haakon VII of Norway. His son became Frederick IX of Denmark. His character has been described as authoritarian and he strongly stressed the importance of royal dignity and power. His reluctance to fully embrace democracy resulted in the Easter Crisis of 1920, in which he dismissed the democratically elected Social Liberal cabinet with which he disagreed, and installed one of his own choosing. Birgitte Alsted
Birgitte Alsted (born 15 June 1942) is a Danish violinist, teacher and composer. Alsted was born in Odense, and was educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and in Warsaw. She has done much within the electronic music and often uses creative expressions, which includes other forms. Thus, she has been a part in theater and performance / dance in Denmark. Her work list, besides the music theater includes works for soloists and chamber ensembles, often unconventional compositions and the use of acoustic instruments. Birgitte Alsted also worked some with multimedia performances in which the use of electronic resources, poetry, dance and slides have been compounded in experimental fashion. Literature and poetry, both old and new have been an important source of inspiration for her. August Hassel
August Christian Valdemar Hassel (9 February 1864 – 30 May 1942) was a Danish sculptor. Early life and education Hassel was born in Copenhagen, the son of captain and mechanic Johan Fridolin Hassel and Doris Henriette Eickhoff. He apprenticed under stucco artist and carver H.C. Berg from August 1879 and graduated from Copenhagen Technical College in January 1882. He graduated from the School of Decorative Arts on 25 May 1886. He later continued his training at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts where he studied under Theobald Stein, graduating on 30 January 1888. Career Hassel had his debut at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition in 1888 with a portrait bust of composer Niels Gade. It was later followed by a number of other portraits. Most of his work was within the area of religious art and he contributed with sculptural works and altarpieces for a number of churches. Peter Esben-Petersen
Peter Esben-Petersen (18 December 1869, in Sverup near Silkeborg – 2 April 1942, in Silkeborg) was a Danish entomologist who specialised in world Neuroptera. He was also interested in the Orthoptera, Ephemeroptera and other insects of Denmark. Esben-Petersen was a teacher in Silkeborg. He was associated with the entomological series Danmarks Flora og Fauna. For his scientific work on world fauna he received an honorary degree from the University of Copenhagen. His insect collection is largely conserved in the Zoological Museum in Copenhagen, with a part in the Natural History Museum in Aarhus :da:Naturhistorisk Museum). Aksel Agerby
Aksel Agerby (29 May 1889 – 20 March 1942) was a Danish composer, organist, and music administrator. He also operated his own Music Publishing company, which published both his work and those of others. Work Agerby was blind and was trained as an organist and pianist at the Danish Royal Blind Institute and the Copenhagen Organist School. From 1921, he was an organist at Copenhagen Funeral services and from 1930 until his death, he played the organ at Brønshøj Church. Today, he is chiefly remembered for one small piece of music, the melody for ''Jeg er havren''. A few other songs of his were recorded, some with Aksel Schiøtz. His musical output also included some songs and a few instrumental compositions, sometimes backed up by an orchestra. Most of his music was written for keyboard instruments; he also composed a number of works for choirs, as well as a handful of pieces for larger ensembles. Alba Schwartz
Sofie Albertine (Alba) Schwartz née Larsen (1857–1942) was a Danish writer who contributed to the social life of Skagen in the north of Jutland after her husband was appointed mayor in 1899. Her earlier writings documented the history of the town but it was not until she was in her seventies that she began writing novels, publishing ''Overlægen'' (The Specialist Physician) in 1935. Her most successful work was ''Skilsmissens Børn'' which led to the film '' Children of Divorce'' in 1939.
