Trinity-Bellwoods is an inner city neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is bounded on the east by Bathurst Street, on the north by College Street, on the south by Queen Street West, and by Dovercourt Road on the west. Joseph Gould (politician, Born 1911)
Joseph M. Gould, (August 22, 1911 – May 8, 1965) was a Canadian politician in Ontario. He was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1959 to 1965 who represented the downtown Toronto riding of Bracondale. He was a municipal alderman for Ward 5 in the 1950s. He died in office at age 53. Background One of five children, he was born in New York City to Russian-Jewish immigrants. His father, Zusha Goled was a tailor and cantor. Herbert Orliffe
Herbert Orliffe (c.1905 – 3 July 1967) was a municipal politician in Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He immigrated with his family from Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle, England at age 8 and settled in Toronto. His father operated a grocery store on Harbord Street. He attended first the University of Toronto and then received a law degree from Osgoode Hall. Orliffe was an active member of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation, CCF party and was first elected as a school board trustee for Ward 4. David Balfour (politician)
David Avoca Balfour (1889–1956) was a municipal politician in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was active in civic politics from 1939 until 1955. This included twelve years on the Board of Control, a longer service than anyone prior. Balfour was born in Amherstburg, Ontario. His father was MPP and later Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario William Balfour. Balfour joined his father in Toronto at age seven and was educated at De La Salle College. He went into business owning a stationery supply store and became active on the Separate School Board, serving there fifteen years. He was first elected to city council in 1939. Throughout his political career Balfour was strongly identified as representing the city's Roman Catholic population. Nathan Phillips (politician)
Nathan Phillips (November 7, 1892 – January 7, 1976) was a Canadian politician who served as the 53rd mayor of Toronto from 1955 to 1962. A lawyer by training, Phillips was first elected to Toronto City Council in 1926. He is the city's first Jewish mayor, ending an unbroken string of Protestant mayors. Early life Born in Brockville, Ontario, the son of Jacob Phillips and Mary Rosenbloom, he was educated in public and high schools in Cornwall, Ontario. In 1908, he articled with the Cornwall lawyer, Robert Smith, who later would be named to the Supreme Court of Canada. The Fashion District (also known as the Garment District) is a commercial and residential district in Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located between the intersection of Bathurst Street to the west, Spadina Avenue to the east, Queen Street West to the north and Front Street to the south. Kensington Market is a distinctive multicultural neighbourhood in Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Market is an older neighbourhood and one of the city's most well-known. The Annex
The Annex is a neighbourhood in Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The traditional boundaries of the neighbourhood are north to Dupont Street, south to Bloor Street, west to Bathurst Street and east to Avenue Road. The City of Toronto recognizes a broader neighbourhood definition that includes the adjacent Seaton Village and Yorkville areas. Bordering the University of Toronto, the Annex has long been a student quarter, and it is also home to many fraternity houses and members of the university's faculty.
