1942 Stanley Cup Finals
The 1942 Stanley Cup Finals was a best-of-seven series between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings. After losing the first three games, the Maple Leafs won the next four to win the series 4–3, winning their fourth Stanley Cup. It was the first Stanley Cup Finals in history to go seven games. 1941–42 Toronto Maple Leafs Season
The 1941–42 NHL season, 1941–42 Toronto Maple Leafs season was the club's 25th season in the National Hockey League, NHL. The Maple Leafs came off a very solid season in 1940–41, finishing with their second highest point total in club history, as they had a 28–14–6 record, earning 62 points, which was two fewer than the 1934–35 team accumulated; however, they lost to the Boston Bruins in the semi-finals, extending their Stanley Cup drought to nine seasons. That drought was broken, however, when the Maple Leafs defeated the Detroit Red Wings in the 1942 Stanley Cup Finals, coming back after losing the first three games to win the Stanley Cup in seven games. Sid Abel
Sidney Gerald Abel (February 22, 1918February 8, 2000) was a Canadian Hall of Fame hockey player, coach and general manager in the National Hockey League, most notably for the Detroit Red Wings, and was a member of three Stanley Cup-winning teams in 1943, 1950, and 1952. In 2017 Abel was named one of the '100 Greatest NHL Players' in history. Playing career Born in Melville, Saskatchewan, "Old Bootnose", as he was known, Abel joined the Red Wings in 1938 after playing junior hockey with the Flin Flon Bombers. He split the next two seasons between Detroit and their affiliates in the International-American Hockey League before becoming a full-time player in 1940. Lorne Carr
Lorne William Bell Carr (July 2, 1910 — June 9, 2007) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League with the New York Rangers, New York Americans, and Toronto Maple Leafs between 1933 and 1946. He won the Stanley Cup twice with Toronto, in 1942 and in 1945. Profession career Carr began his career in 1930 with the Vancouver Lions of the Pacific Coast Hockey League. He next played for the Buffalo Bisons of the International Hockey League. In 1934 Carr signed with the New York Rangers. Wally Stanowski
Walter Peter Stanowski (April 28, 1919 – June 28, 2015) was a Canadian ice hockey defenceman. He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Stanowski started his National Hockey League career with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1939. In 1941, he was a member of the NHL All-Star team. He won four Stanley Cups with the Maple Leafs. Stanowski was traded to the New York Rangers after the 1947-48 season. He retired after the 1951 season. Stanowski was the last surviving member of Maple Leafs 1942 and 1945 Stanley Cup team. As of 2015, Stanowski lived in a retirement home near Toronto. He died on June 28, 2015. At the time of his death, Stanowski was the oldest surviving Maple Leaf. Mud Bruneteau
Modere Fernand "Mud" Bruneteau (November 28, 1914 – April 15, 1982) was a Canadian professional ice hockey forward who played for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League between 1935 and 1946. He was teammates for a time with his brother, Ed Bruneteau and later coached him on the Omaha Knights. Bruneteau scored the winning goal of the longest overtime game in 1936. John McCreedy
Johnny McCreedy (March 23, 1911 – December 7, 1979) was a Canadian ice hockey player who played 64 games in the National Hockey League. He played with the Toronto Maple Leafs and was a member of two Stanley Cup-winning teams, in 1942 and 1945. Career McCreedy was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and raised in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. He later moved back to Winnipeg to begin his career. He became a dominant player on his hometown Winnipeg Monarchs where he won the MJHL and then the 1937 Memorial Cup where he scored four goals in the championship game. He then went to British Columbia to play for the Trail Smoke Eaters, eventually going back to Kirkland Lake to play there and then east to Nova Scotia to play for the Sydney Millionaires.
