1942 Pittsburgh Steelers Season
The 1942 Pittsburgh Steelers season was the franchise's 10th season in the National Football League (NFL). The team improved on their previous season result of 1–9–1 with a record of 7–4–0, which was good enough for 2nd place in the NFL East. This was the franchise's first ever winning record. For the second straight year, the team held training camp in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Regular season Schedule The 1942 Steeler Team was the best team the club had up to that point. For the first time in 10 seasons, the Steelers had a 4-game winning streak. The team finished with a 7-4 record and looked forward to the next season. However, due to the loss of players in the US draft, the team was forced to combine operation with the cross-state rival, Philadelphia Eagles. Sammy Baugh
Samuel Adrian Baugh (March 17, 1914 – December 17, 2008) was an American professional football player and coach. During his college and professional careers, he most notably played quarterback, but also played as a safety and punter. He played college football for the Horned Frogs at Texas Christian University, where he was a twice All-American. He then played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Washington Redskins from 1937 to 1952. After his playing career, he served as a college coach for Hardin–Simmons University before coaching professionally for the New York Titans and the Houston Oilers. Griffith Stadium stood in Washington, D.C., from 1911 to 1965, between Georgia Avenue and 5th Street (left field), and between W Street and Florida Avenue NW. John M. Binotto (November 24, 1919 – February 19, 2016) was a former American football halfback who played one season in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles. Early life Binotto was born in Lawrence, Pennsylvania,and attended Cecil High School in Cecil, Pennsylvania. He matriculated at Duquesne University. The 1947 Pittsburgh Steelers season was the franchise's 15th season in the National Football League (NFL). The team improved on its 1946 record by winning eight games and losing four. This record tied for the lead in the Eastern Division and qualified the Steelers for the franchise's first It was the Steelers' only postseason appearance before 1972. It was Jock Sutherland's second and final year as head coach; he died the following April after being found wandering around in a field in Kentucky.
