1941–42 Oshkosh All-Stars Season
The 1941–42 Oshkosh All-Stars season was the All-Stars' fourth year in the United States' National Basketball League (NBL), which was also the fourth year the league existed. Seven teams competed in the NBL in 1941–42 and the league did not use divisions. The All-Stars played their home games at South Park School Gymnasium. For the fifth consecutive season, the All-Stars finished the season with either a division or league best record (20–4). They then went on to win their second consecutive league championship by defeating the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons, two games to one in a best-of-three series. Head coach Lon Darling won the league's Coach of the Year Award. Players Leroy Edwards and Charley Shipp earned First Team All-NBL honors for the second straight season. Lon Darling
Alonzo Lewis "Lon" Darling (June 25, 1902 – April 19, 1951) was an early influencer in American professional basketball, having created the barnstorming team the Oshkosh All-Stars, is credited with being the organizer of the National Basketball League (NBL), and was a two-time NBL Coach of the Year. The Oshkosh All-Stars saw great success over their twelve-year tenure in the NBL, winning the Western Division six times and the league championship twice, in 1941 and 1942. The All-Stars also won the World Professional Basketball Tournament in 1942. The All-National Basketball League Team was an annual National Basketball League (NBL) honor bestowed upon the best players in the United States league following the NBL season. The team was selected every season of the league's existence, from 1937–38 through 1948–49. The ''Oshkosh Northwestern'' is a daily newspaper based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The Detroit Pistons are an American professional basketball team based in Detroit. The Pistons compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league's Eastern Conference Central Division and play their home games at Little Caesars Arena, located in Midtown. Charles William Shipp (December 3, 1913 – March 21, 1988) was an American professional basketball player and coach. A 6'1" guard-forward, Shipp attended Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, where he led the Irish to the National Catholic Championship in 1933. Leroy Edwards
Leroy Harry Edwards (April 11, 1914 – August 25, 1971), nicknamed "Cowboy" and "Lefty", was one of the greatest basketball players of his era. He was an NCAA All-American at the University of Kentucky and also one of the most lauded professional players in the United States' National Basketball League's history. High school Edwards was a center who starred at Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, Indiana.
