1941 American Football League Season
The 1941 AFL season was the second and final season of the third American Football League. American Football League (1940)
The American Football League, also known retrospectively as the AFL III to distinguish it from earlier organizations of that name, was a professional American football league that operated from 1940–1941. It was created when three teams, the original Cincinnati Bengals, the Columbus Bullies, and the Milwaukee Chiefs, were lured away from the minor-league American Professional Football Association and joined three new franchises in Boston, Buffalo, and New York City in a new league. It competed against the National Football League (NFL), the oldest existing professional football league, established 1920 and reorganized 1922. The organization was the third major league to bear the name American Football League. Single (football)
In Canadian football, a single (also called a single point, or ''rouge'') is a one-point score that is awarded for certain plays that involve the ball being kicked into the end zone and not returned from it. Rules A single is awarded when the ball is kicked into the end zone by any legal means—other than a convert (successful or not) or a successful field goal—and the receiving team does not return (or kick) the ball out of its end zone. A single is also scored if a kick—excluding kickoffs—goes out of bounds in the end zone without being touched. A single is indicated by the referee raising his right arm and index finger. Robert Joseph Eckl (November 20, 1917 - September 30, 1961) was a professional American football player in the National Football League as a tackle for the Chicago Cardinals in 1945. Alec Regis Shellogg (February 17, 1914 – July 12, 1968) was a professional American football player in the National Football League as well as the third American Football League. In 1939, he played in the NFL for the Chicago Bears and the Brooklyn Dodgers. In 1940 and 1941 he played in the AFL for the Buffalo Indians/Tigers. He earned all-AFL honors both years in the league. He was also one of over 1,000 NFL personnel who served in the military during World War II. Prior to his professional career, Shellogg played at the college level while attending Notre Dame. Wayland Herman Becker (November 2, 1910 – December 1, 1984) was an American football player. He played in the National Football League (NFL) for six seasons. Early life Becker was born in Soperton, Wisconsin, and attended East High School in Green Bay, Wisconsin. While in high school, he twice led his football team to Fox River Valley conference championships, in 1928 and 1929. Becker went on to attend Marquette University, where he played football and basketball, lettering twice. Football career Becker began his NFL career with the George Halas's Chicago Bears in 1934. He played just two games for the Bears before completing the 1934 season with the Brooklyn Dodgers, with whom he stayed through the 1935 season.
