Christian X Of Denmark
Christian X ( da, Christian Carl Frederik Albert Alexander Vilhelm; 26 September 1870 – 20 April 1947) was King of Denmark from 1912 to his death in 1947, and the only King of Iceland as Kristján X, in the form of a personal union rather than a real union between 1918 and 1944. He was a member of the House of Glücksburg, a branch of the House of Oldenburg, and the first monarch since King Frederick VII born into the Danish royal family; both his father and his grandfather were born as princes of a ducal family from Schleswig. Among his siblings was King Haakon VII of Norway. His son became Frederick IX of Denmark. His character has been described as authoritarian and he strongly stressed the importance of royal dignity and power. His reluctance to fully embrace democracy resulted in the Easter Crisis of 1920, in which he dismissed the democratically elected Social Liberal cabinet with which he disagreed, and installed one of his own choosing. Mary Steen
Mary Dorothea Frederica Steen (28 October 1856 – 7 April 1939) was a photography in Denmark, Danish photographer and feminist. At the age of 28, she opened a studio in Copenhagen where she specialized in indoor photography. She later became Denmark's first female court photographer, working not only with the Danish royal family but, at the invitation of Alexandra of Denmark, Princess Alexandra, with the British royal family too. She also played an important part in improving conditions for female workers and encouraging women to take up the profession of photography. Early life Born in a village between Aarhus and Randers in Jutland, Steen was the daughter of Niels Jensen Steen, a schoolteacher, and Caroline Kirstine Petersen. Peter Hertz
Peter Julius Hertz (1 June 1874 in Copenhagen – 26 March 1939) was a Danish art historian and museum worker. Peter Hertz was the son of Julius Hertz (1842–1920), a wholesale merchant, and his wife Henriette F. Hertz (1850–1921). Hertz became a graduate student at a private college in 1893 and took many philosophy courses. Until 1896, he attended a technological school, while he worked as a bricklayer and learned how to be an architect. Then he began independent art historical studies and eventually went to study in 1899 on a three-year trip to Germany and Italy. In 1901, he worked in London, but he began to travel for his studies in 1903, primarily in Italy, but also in the Netherlands. During those years, he focused on Classical Architecture, obtaining a Doctorate in Philosophy. Prince Valdemar of Denmark (27 October 1858 – 14 January 1939) was a member of the Danish royal family. He was the third son and youngest child of Christian IX of Denmark and Louise of Hesse-Kassel. He had a lifelong naval career. Early life Prince Valdemar was born on 27 October 1858 at Bernstorff Palace in Gentofte north of Copenhagen., p. 69.
