1939 Mitropa Cup
The 1939 season of the Mitropa Cup football club tournament was won by Újpest who defeated fellow Hungarian side Ferencváros 6–3 on aggregate in the final. It was the third consecutive final appearance for Ferencváros and it was Újpest's second and final victory in the competition. This was the 13th edition of the tournament. Újpest FC
Újpest Football Club () is a Hungarian professional association football, football club, based in Újpest, Budapest, that competes in Nemzeti Bajnokság I. Formed in 1885, Újpest reached the first division of the Hungarian League in Nemzeti Bajnokság I 1905, 1905 and has been relegated only once since then. The club has been a member of the first division for 108 consecutive years. Újpest have been Hungarian champions twenty times, and have won the Magyar Kupa eleven times and the Szuperkupa three times. In international competitions Újpest are two-times winners of the Mitropa Cup and winners of the 1930 Coupe des Nations. Stadion Albert Flórián
Stadion Albert Flórián was a sports stadium in Budapest, Hungary. The stadium was the home of the association football club Ferencvárosi TC. The stadium had a capacity of 18,100. Formerly known as ''Üllői úti stadion'' for its location, it had been renamed for Ballon d'Or winner club legend Flórián Albert in 2007. Today, the stadium's place is occupied by the newly built Groupama Arena. History Construction The first stadium was started to be built in the autumn of 1910. On 12 February 1911, Ferencváros played their first match against Budapest rival MTK Budapest which was won by the club. Géza Toldi
Géza Toldi (11 February 1909 – 16 August 1985) was a Hungarian footballer. He played for Ferencvárosi TC, and from 1934 to 1938 for the Hungarian national team, serving as captain in 1936. He scored a goal in the 1938 FIFA World Cup. Club career He grew up in the railway houses of Avar Street in Buda, Németvölgy. He began playing football in his place of residence, featuring for one of the local teams, ITE, in the fourth division of the youth championship, and he was pivotal in helping the club climb one division at a time almost every year, and in 1928 they also won the first division championship. In 1928, he was noticed at the youth federation's Christmas round-robin tournament. He received offers from several teams, including Oradea and Ferencvárosi, and in the end, he chose the latter, staying with them for more than a decade, until 1939, and again from 1942 to 1943. Ettore Puricelli
Héctor "Ettore" Puricelli (; 15 September 1916 – 14 May 2001) was a football player and manager who played as a striker. Born in Uruguay, he represented Italy at international level. As a player, he is most famous for his time with Italian clubs Bologna and Milan. A prolific goalscorer, he was known for his ability in the air, which earned him the nickname "testina d'oro" ("golden little head," in Italian). Career After playing for his hometown side Central Español from Montevideo, Puricelli decided to move from Uruguay to Italy in 1938 to play for Serie A side Bologna. The club were going through a good spell in their history and with goals from Puricelli they were able to continue that; in his first season they won the Italian championship of 1938–39. Szusza Ferenc Stadion
Szusza Ferenc Stadion (formerly known as Megyeri úti Stadion or simply Megyeri út) is a football stadium in Újpest and the home of Újpest FC. The stadium was designed by Alfréd Hajós and opened on 17 September 1922. The stadium was renovated in 2000-01; its capacity is 12,670. Since 2003 the stadium has been named after Ferenc Szusza (1923–2006), one of the best strikers in Hungarian football history. History After one year of construction the stadium was opened on 17 September 1922, with the match Újpest v Ferencváros 2-1. From June 1925 to June 1929 a bicycle track was running around the ground allowing it to be used as a velodrome. Since the track was occupying some parts of the stands, the capacity was reduced to 15,000 people. A flood in 1945 destroyed the stands but after the renovations in 1946 the Megyeri úti Stadion became the largest stadium in Hungary with a capacity of 45,117 people.
