The 1937 Rose Bowl, was the 23rd edition of the bowl game, between the independent Pittsburgh Panthers of western Pennsylvania and the Washington Huskies of Seattle, the champions of the Pacific Coast Conference. The game was played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, on Friday, January 1, 1937. Pacific Coast Conference
The Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) was a college athletic conference in the United States which existed from 1915 to 1959. Though the Pac-12 Conference claims the PCC's history as part of its own, with eight of the ten PCC members (including all four original PCC charter members) now in the Pac-12, the older league had a completely different charter and was disbanded in 1959 due to a major crisis and scandal. 1928 Rose Bowl
The 1928 Rose Bowl Game was a match between Stanford (7–2–1) and the Pittsburgh Panthers (8–0–1). Usually, the Rose Bowl was played on January 1, but in 1928, that fell on a Sunday, so the game was played on January 2, 1928. At this time, the Rose Bowl was the top and only bowl game, an east-vs.-west matchup. Stanford won the game, 7–6. Coaching The coach for Pittsburgh was Jock Sutherland, while the Stanford coach was Pop Warner. Sutherland had played on several of Warner's Pitt teams while Warner was head coach at Pitt. Warner was head coach at Pitt from 1915 to 1923 and coached the Panthers to three undefeated seasons, 33 straight wins, and was credited with three national championships for Pitt before going to Stanford in 1924. 1936–37 NCAA Football Bowl Games
The 1936–37 NCAA football bowl games were the final games of the 1936 college football season, and included the debuts of the Cotton Bowl Classic and Bacardi Bowl, which would complement the Orange, Rose, Sugar Bowl and Sun Bowl as the fifth and sixth post-season games. Frank W. Patrick (October 3, 1915 – September 26, 1992) was an American football player who played two seasons with the Chicago Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Cardinals in the third round of the 1938 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of Pittsburgh and attended Roosevelt High School in East Chicago, Indiana. Patrick was head coach of the Puget Sound Loggers from 1946 to 1948. 1926 Rose Bowl
The 1926 Rose Bowl Game was held on January 1, 1926, in Pasadena, California. The game is commonly referred to as "The Game That Changed The South." The game featured the Alabama Crimson Tide, making their first bowl appearance, and the Washington Huskies. The Crimson Tide was led by Johnny Mack Brown, and the Huskies by George "Wildcat" Wilson. Alabama were victorious 20–19, as they scored all 20 points in the third quarter. With the victory, the Crimson Tide were awarded with their first National Championship. The 1924 Rose Bowl was a postseason American college football bowl game played between the independent Navy Midshipmen and the Washington Huskies, a member of the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC). The game took place on January 1, 1924, at the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena, California, closing the 1923 college football season. The game opened in front of approximately 40,000 people and ended in a 1414 tie. It was the first post-season bowl game for both teams.
