Canadian Football News in 1936 Teams were restricted to a maximum of five imports, and only players who had lived in Canada for a full year could compete in the Grey Cup game. When Regina won the West, five of their imports were declared illegal by the Canadian Rugby Union (CRU). Regina offered to drop the players for the Grey Cup, but the CRU would not allow them to play for the cup. Instead, the Grey Cup was a contest between the Sarnia Imperials of the Ontario Rugby Football Union (ORFU) and the Ottawa Rough Riders of the Interprovincial Rugby Football Union (IRFU). Sarnia won their second and last Grey Cup with a powerful line-up that included future Hall of Famers Hugh (Bummer) Stirling and Ormond Beach. The Western Interprovincial Football Union (WIFU) was formed in August with the Winnipegs, Calgary Bronks, and the Regina Roughriders. The Grey Cup (french: Coupe Grey) is both the championship game of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the trophy awarded to the victorious team playing in the namesake championship of professional Canadian football. The game is contested between the winners of the CFL's East and West Divisional playoffs and is one of Canadian television's largest annual sporting events. The Toronto Argonauts (officially the Toronto Argonaut Football Club and colloquially known as the Argos) are a professional Canadian football team competing in the East Division of the Canadian Football League (CFL), based in Toronto, Ontario. Bob Coulter
Joseph Robert Coulter (1913–2006) was a Canadian Football player, pilot, and educator. Coulter played football at the University of Toronto (1933-1935), becoming team captain and winning the first Johnny Copp Trophy in 1935. He went on to play quarterback for the Toronto Argonauts in their 1936, 1940 & 1941 seasons. Coulter earned an honours B.A. in English from the University of Toronto in 1935, his teachers' certificate a year later, and then taught English, History and Physical Education at North Toronto Collegiate Institute from 1936 to 1954. During the Second World War (1942-1945) he enlisted as a pilot and became a Flying Officer earning his Pilot's wings. From 1954-1958 Coulter taught English and French and was head of U of T's Extension Department responsible for the emerging field of adult education. Vancouver Meralomas
The Vancouver Meralomas football team was a Canadian football team that played in the British Columbia Rugby Football Union and the Western Canada Rugby Football Union from 1926 to 1938. The team was part of the popular and successful Meraloma Club. The Meralomas also fielded championship junior football sides for many decades. The Meralomas were a very successful team, winning 5 championships in 13 seasons. In 1926 the Meralomas were awarded the ''Harry Duker Cup'' for being Senior City Champions. In 1927 the team entered the Senior City League for the second time, winning the ''Harry Duker Cup'' again, but lost the Provincial Championship. The Vancouver Athletic Club football team (''the Wolves'') was a Canadian football that played in the British Columbia Rugby Football Union and the Western Canada Rugby Football Union from 1929 to 1936. The team was part of the popular and successful Vancouver Athletic Club, which fielded teams in several other sports. The ''Vancouver Athletic Club'' were a very successful team, winning 3 championships in 8 seasons. The British Columbia Rugby Football Union was a Canadian football league, founded on September, 1, 1926. It lasted for 15 seasons, disbanding in 1941 as the Second World War brought most league football to a close. It was a member of the Western Canada Rugby Football Union along with the Alberta Rugby Football Union, Saskatchewan Rugby Football Union and the Manitoba Rugby Football Union. The Saskatchewan Rugby Football Union was a Canadian football league created on September 22, 1910 and disbanded after the 1936 season. It joined the Manitoba Rugby Football Union and the Alberta Rugby Football Union to form the Western Canada Rugby Football Union in 1911. Hamilton Tiger Cubs
The Hamilton Tiger Cubs were a Canadian junior ice hockey team in the Ontario Hockey Association from 1953 to 1960. The team was based in Hamilton, Ontario. History The Hamilton juniors which they were called initially in the early part of 1953. At the time Hamilton had the historic senior OHA team still called the "tigers" in the city but sadly the popularity of the team was fading due to mismanagement and the city of Hamilton being more attracted to younger hockey prospects vs senior players.
