The 1936 Auburn Tigers football team represented Auburn University in the 1936 college football season. The Tigers' were led by head coach Jack Meagher in his third season and finished the season with a record of seven wins, two losses and two ties (7–2–2 overall, 4–1–1 in the SEC). Jack Meagher
John Francis Meagher (July 5, 1894 – December 7, 1968) was an American football player, coach of football, basketball, and baseball, and college athletics administrator. Meagher played football for the University of Notre Dame in 1916, rising to a second-team end under then-assistant coach, Knute Rockne. He served with the United States Marines in France during World War I and played in four games with the Chicago Tigers in 1920, the first year of the National Football League (NFL). Meagher embarked on a career in coaching in 1921 at St. Edward's University, where he served as head football coach from 1921 to 1928, compiling a record of 24–21–4, and as head basketball coach from 1921 to 1924. From 1929 to 1933, he coached football at Rice University, where he compiled a 26–26 record. The 1936 Santa Clara Broncos football team represented Santa Clara University as an independent during the 1936 college football season. In their first season under head coach Buck Shaw, the Broncos compiled an 8–1 record with five shutouts, and outscored all opponents by a combined total of 139 to 36. In the final AP Poll released in late November, Santa Clara was sixth. The Broncos' victories included a besting of Stanford, a victory over Saint Mary's and a victory over undefeated and second-ranked LSU in the third Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day. The team's lone setback was a shutout loss to (with Sammy Baugh) at Kezar Stadium on December 12. The Auburn–Georgia football rivalry is a college football rivalry game between the Auburn Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs. The two teams first played each other in 1892, and the rivalry has been renewed annually since 1944 for a total of 126 games as of 2021. University of Detroit Stadium, also known as U of D Stadium, Titan Stadium, or Dinan Field, was an outdoor athletic stadium in the north central United States, located on the campus of the University of Detroit in Detroit, Michigan.
