1935 FA Charity Shield
The 1935 FA Charity Shield was the 22nd FA Charity Shield, a football match between the winners of the previous season's First Division and FA Cup competitions. The match was contested by league champions Arsenal and FA Cup winners Sheffield Wednesday, and was played at Highbury, the home ground of Arsenal. Sheffield Wednesday won 1–0. Arsenal were making their fifth appearance out of six Charity Shields, and they had won the previous four in which they had played, including a 2–1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday in the 1930 final. Sheffield Wednesday were making their second and as of 2016 most recent appearance in the competition. The match was criticized as a poor game in which Arsenal under-performed. FA Community Shield
The Football Association Community Shield (formerly the Charity Shield) is English football's annual match contested at Wembley Stadium between the champions of the previous Premier League season and the holders of the FA Cup. If the Premier League champions also won the FA Cup, then the league runners-up provide the opposition. The fixture is recognised as a competitive super cup by The Football Association and UEFA. Organised by the FA, proceeds from the game are distributed to community initiatives and charities around the country. Revenue from the gate receipts and match programme sales is distributed to the 124 clubs who competed in the FA Cup from the first round onwards, for onward distribution to charities and projects of their choice, while the remainder is distributed to the FA's national charity partners. Frank Hill
Frank Robert Hill (21 May 1906 – 28 August 1993) was a Scottish association football, football player and manager. Playing career Forfar and Aberdeen Hill was born in Forfar and started his career at Forfar Athletic F.C., Forfar Athletic, joining the club in 1924. He moved to Aberdeen F.C., Aberdeen in 1928 and played over 100 Scottish Football League Division One, Scottish Division One matches. A Wing half, right-half (which was more or less the equivalent of a defensive midfielder, defensive midfield position), Hill earned the nickname "Tiger" for his "tigerish" tackling. During his four years at Aberdeen, he also won three caps for Scotland national football team, Scotland (between 1930 and 1931). Hill left Aberdeen under something of a cloud, being one of five players dropped by manager Paddy Travers in November 1931. Mark Hooper
Mark Hooper (14 July 1901 – 9 March 1974) was an English professional footballer who played for Darlington, Sheffield Wednesday and briefly with Rotherham United in a 16-year career which lasted from 1923 to 1939, although he appeared in 1945 in a few games after World War II . In total he played 500 League games (550 including cup games) in that time, scoring 168 League goals with 11 more in the FA Cup. Horace Burrows
Horace Burrows (11 March 1910 – 22 March 1969) was a professional footballer who played for Mansfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday. Burrows was a left half whose league career lasted from 1932 to 1939, his career was curtailed by the outbreak of World War II. Burrows also played for the England national football team on three occasions. Playing career Non-league football Burrows was born in Sutton-in-Ashfield on 11 March 1910, as a youth he won honours with Nottinghamshire Schools and played for local club Sutton Junction F.C. In February 1929 he was offered a trial by Division Three South side Coventry City and was signed on after a successful tryout. Walter Millership
Walter Millership was a professional footballer who played for Bradford Park Avenue and Sheffield Wednesday in a career that lasted from 1928 until 1939 during which time he played 240 League games (271 including cup games), scoring 38 league goals (47 including cup). Millership made his name as a centre-half but he originally was a centre forward in his early playing days. Arthur Edward Catlin (11 January 1910 – 28 November 1990) was a footballer who played his entire professional career for Sheffield Wednesday. Joseph Nibloe (23 November 1903 – 25 October 1976) was a Scottish professional footballer who played for Kilmarnock, Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday in a 15-year career between 1924 and 1939, during which time he made 459 club appearances including cup games. John Henry Brown (19 March 1899 – 9 April 1962) was an English football goalkeeper who played almost all his professional career with Sheffield Wednesday before moving to play briefly for Hartlepool United. Brown's career lasted from 1923 to 1937 during which time he made 466 League appearances (508 including FA Cup). Cliff Bastin
Clifford Sydney Bastin (14 March 1912 – 4 December 1991) was an English footballer who played as a winger for Exeter City and Arsenal. He also played for the England national team. Bastin is Arsenal's third-highest goalscorer of all time. Club career Born in Exeter, Bastin started his career at Exeter City, making his début for the club in 1928, at the age of 16. Despite only playing 17 games and scoring 6 goals in his time at Exeter, he was spotted by Arsenal manager Herbert Chapman in a match against Watford. Jimmy Dunne
James Dunne (3 September 1905 – 14 November 1949) was an Irish footballer who played for, among others, Shamrock Rovers, Sheffield United, Arsenal and Southampton. Dunne was also a dual internationalist and played for both Ireland teams: the FAI XI and the IFA XI. Dunne was the first Irishman to figure prominently in the English League scoring records. In the 1930–31 season he scored 41 league goals for Sheffield United. This became a club record and remains the most league goals scored by an Irishman during a single English League season. John Vance Milne (25 March 1911 – 29 August 1959) was a Scottish footballer, who played for Arsenal and Middlesbrough. Arsenal won the old First Division in 1937–38 and he made 16 league appearances, enough for a winners' medal.
