The 1934–35 season was the eighth season of competitive football in the British Mandate for Palestine under the Eretz Israel Football Association and the 3rd under the Arab Palestine Sports Federation. IFA Competitions 1934–35 Palestine League The competition began in December 1934, the EIFA decided to abandon the competition in early March 1935. 1935 Palestine Cup Both Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv opted to forfeit their matches. Maccabi Avshalom Petah Tikva and Hakoah Tel Aviv took advantage of this and made it to the final, the former winning by a single goal. During the First World War (1914–1918), an Arab uprising against Ottoman rule and the British Empire's Egyptian Expeditionary Force under General Edmund Allenby drove the Ottoman Turks out of the Levant during the Sinai and Palestine Campaign. Arab Palestine Sports Federation
The Arab Palestine Sport Federation (APSF; ar, الإتحاد الرياضي العربي الفلسطيني, al-Ittihad al-Riadi al-'Arabi al-Filastini) was a governing body of sport activities for Palestinian Arabs in Mandatory Palestine. The federation was active between 1931 and 1937 and between 1944 and 1948. It organized a variant of activities in various sports, mostly in football, boxing, and weightlifting. Hapoel ( he, הפועל, lit. ''the worker'') is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. History During the British Mandate of Palestine period Hapoel had a bitter rivalry with Maccabi and organized its own competitions, with the exception of football, the only sport in which all the organizations played each other. At the time, Hapoel took no part in the ''Eretz Israel Olympic Committee'', which was controlled by Maccabi, and instead sought for international ties with similar workers sports organizations of socialist parties. Therefore, Hapoel became a member of SASI in 1927 and later was a member of CSIT. Gaul Machlis ( he, גאול מכליס; 21 May 1918 – 19 February 1995) was an Israeli football player and manager. As a player, he played as a forward or attacking midfielder for Maccabi Petah Tikva and Maccabi Tel Aviv at club level, and for Mandatory Palestine internationally. Club career Born in Petah Tikva, Palestine, on 21 May 1918, Machlis began his senior club career at hometown club Maccabi Petah Tikva in 1934, where he won multiple titles, before moving Maccabi Tel Aviv in 1936. In 1945, Machlis was forced to retire early from his playing career due to injury. Managerial career Following his retirement as a player, Machlis was appointed manager of Maccabi Petah Tikva at the end of the 1951–52 season. Before the end of the season, he became manager of Maccabi Tel Aviv, replacing Jerry Beit haLevi. He was dismissed in the middle of the following season. The Maccabiah Stadium ( he, אצטדיון המכביה ''Itztadion HaMakabiya'') was a football stadium on the Yarkon River in Tel Aviv, Israel. 1935 Maccabiah Games
The 2nd Maccabiah ( he, המכביה השנייה), aka the Aliyah Olympics, which was held in April 1935, was the second edition of the Maccabiah Games. The Games were held despite official opposition by the British Mandatory government. A total of 28 countries were represented by 1,350 athletes. Austria placed first, followed by Germany in second, with Eretz Israel placing third. History After the success of the 1st Maccabiah in 1932, the Maccabi World Union decided to host a second Maccabiah. In order to not make it look like they were imitating the Olympic Games, the 2nd Maccabiah took place 3 years after the first, in the spring of 1935. Eretz Yisrael enjoyed that year a relative economic boom. Tel Aviv has grown and main streets were paved. The stadium also has grown and added many new viewing locations.
