1934–35 Brentford F.C. Season
During the 1934–35 English football season, Brentford competed in the Football League Second Division. The Bees led the division for much of the second half of the season and were promoted as champions to the First Division for the first time in the club's history. Brentford also won the London Challenge Cup for the first time. Brentford F
Brentford is a suburban town in West London, England and part of the London Borough of Hounslow. It lies at the confluence of the River Brent and the Thames, west of Charing Cross. Its economy has diverse company headquarters buildings which mark the start of the M4 corridor; in transport it also has two railway stations and Boston Manor Underground station on its north-west border with Hanwell. George Robson (footballer, Born 1905)
George Chippendale Robson (17 June 1905 – 1982) was an English professional footballer who played as an inside right, most notably for Brentford and Heart of Midlothian in the 1930s. He later became a scout at former club West Ham United. Playing career Newcastle United An inside right, Robson joined hometown First Division club Newcastle United in 1925, but failed to make an appearance for the first team before departing in 1928. West Ham United Robson signed for First Division club West Ham United in 1928. He made his debut for the Hammers on the final day of the 1927–28 season in a 3–1 defeat to former club Newcastle United. Robson had to wait until 15 December 1928 for his next appearance, but he made his presence count with West Ham's third goal in a 3–3 draw with Sunderland. Duncan McKenzie (10 August 1912 – 1987) was a Scottish professional footballer who made over 150 appearances in the Football League for Brentford as a right half. He was capped by Scotland at international level. Career Albion Rovers A centre half, McKenzie began his career at Scottish Second Division club Albion Rovers. He was an ever-present for Rovers during the 1931–32 season and departed the club at the end of the campaign. Brentford McKenzie moved to England and signed for Third Division South club Brentford for a £350 fee during the 1932 off-season. In professional association football, a free transfer, also known as a Bosman transfer, involves a professional association football club releasing a player when the player's contract has expired or made available just before the end of the contract. The player can then go on to sign for any club offering a contract to them. James Mathieson
James Adamson Mathieson (10 May 1904 – 13 April 1950) was a Scottish professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper in the Football League for Middlesbrough and Brentford. He made over 500 professional appearances in the English and Scottish leagues. Mathieson is the only player to win three English Second Division championship medals, as an ever-present in each season. Career Early years A goalkeeper, Mathieson began his career in Scotland with junior clubs Dubbleside Hearts and Colinsburgh United. He got his break when he signed for Scottish League First Division club Partick Thistle in 1922. Idris Hopkins
Idris Morgan Hopkins (11 October 1910 – 9 October 1994) was a Welsh footballer famed for his talented right foot. He played for many clubs throughout his career, but most famously Brentford where he captained them in the English First Division. He is a member of the Brentford Hall of Fame. Early life Hopkins was born in the mining town of Merthyr Tydfil in Wales, son of a coal miner. He was naturally right footed but spent a great deal of time improving his weaker left foot repeatedly kicking a ball against a wall until it was of equal standard. Before turning professional he played football at an amateur level for Gellyfaelog and New Road.
