1934 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships
The 10th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships were held in Budapest, Hungary, in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Hungarian Gymnastics Federation, on June 1–2, 1934. It was the first World Championships with a women's segment to the competition. World Artistic Gymnastics Championships
The Artistic Gymnastics World Championships are the world championships for artistic gymnastics governed by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). The first edition of the championships was held in 1903, exclusively for male gymnasts. Since the tenth edition of the tournament, in 1934, women's events are held together with men's events. The FIG was founded in 1881 and was originally entitled FEG (Fédération Européenne de Gymnastique), but changed its name in 1921, becoming the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG); this name change roughly correlates with the actual naming of the World Championships. Although the first such games were held in 1903, they were not initially entitled the 'World Championships'. Walter Johan Heinrich Steffens (26 December 1908 – 23 August 2006) was a German gymnast who won an Olympic gold medal. He was born in Barnstorf, the son of a family of craftsmen. Konrad Frey
Konrad Frey (24 April 1909 in Bad Kreuznach – 24 May 1974 ib.) was a German gymnast best known to be the most successful German male competitor at a single Olympics. With 3 Gold and 6 medals in total at the 1936 Summer Olympics, he had beaten team-mate Alfred Schwarzmann by one Silver for the honours of becoming the most successful competitor in term of total medals won, and the most successful competitor of host nation Germany. American Jesse Owens scored four medals, but all of them Gold. In 1932, 1935 and 1937, Konrad Frey became German Champion in Men's individual all-round.
