1933 Railway Cup Hurling Championship
The 1933 Railway Cup Hurling Championship was the seventh series of the inter-provincial hurling Railway Cup. Two matches were played between 19 February and 17 March 1933. It was contested by Connacht, Leinster and Munster. Leinster entered the championship as the defending champions. On 17 March 1933, Leinster won the Railway Cup after a 4-06 to 3-06 defeat of Munster in the final at Croke Park, Dublin. This was their second title in succession and their third title over all. Munster's Martin Kennedy was the Railway Cup top scorer with 5-01. Flag Of Leinster
The flag of the Irish province of Leinster is a banner with the provincial coat of arms: a gold Irish harp with silver strings on a green field (blazon: ''vert a harp or stringed argent''). These arms are similar to the arms of Ireland, which have the same device on a field of blue rather than green. The arms (''Vert, a Harp Or, stringed Argent'') is believed to have likely evolved from the arms of Ireland itself with a change of tincture. History Possibly the oldest Irish instance of the use of the harp device on a green field was the flag of Eoghan Ruadh Ó Néill (Owen Roe O'Neill). Owen Roe, nephew of Aodh ( Hugh O'Neill), had entered the Spanish service after his uncle's defeat at Kinsale in 1601. The 1932 Railway Cup Hurling Championship was the sixth series of the inter-provincial hurling Railway Cup. Two matches were played between 28 February and 17 March 1932. It was contested by Connacht, Leinster and Munster. Munster entered the championship as the defending champions. On 17 March 1932, Leinster won the Railway Cup after a 6-08 to 4-04 defeat of Munster in the final at Croke Park, Dublin. This was their second title over all and their first since 1927. The final was notable in that the first ever point scored directly from a sideline cut occurred in it, after a rule change by Central Council the day before. Tull Considine
Turlough Owen "Tull" Considine (5 October 1898 – 7 July 1980) was an Irish hurler and Gaelic footballer who played for the Clare senior teams. A talented dual player, Considine first played for the senior hurling team during the 1918 championship and was a regular on the inter-county scene until his retirement after the 1934 championship. During that time he won one Munster hurling medal. Considine was an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. He also played football with Clare. Appearing in the 1917 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final where Clare lost out to Wexford. At club level Considine played with the Ennis Dalcassians club and enjoyed much success. Johnny Dunne
Johnny Dunne (1 December 1903 – 7 September 1954) was an Irish hurler who played as a full-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Bennettsbridge, County Kilkenny, Dunne first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-three when he first linked up with the Kilkenny senior team. Dunne went on to play a key part for Kilkenny during a successful era for the team, and won two All-Ireland medals, three Leinster medals and one National Hurling League medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. As a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team, Dunne won two Railway Cup medals. Portumna ( - meaning 'the landing place of the oak') is a market town in the south-east of County Galway, Ireland, on the border with and linked by a bridge to County Tipperary. Portumna GAA
Portumna GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town of Portumna in County Galway. The club is almost exclusively centred on hurling. History The first mention of Portumna in terms of Gaelic games comes in 1888 with regard to a junior Gaelic football game against Eyrecourt. The club remained in the background of senior club hurling until 1995 when Portumna contested their first county final. Victory on that occasion went to Sarsfield's. The 2000s saw a golden age for the club as it contested seven consecutive county finals between 2003 and 2009. Victory was achieved in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Croke Park ( ga, Páirc an Chrócaigh, ) is a Gaelic games stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Named after Archbishop Thomas Croke, it is referred to as Croker by GAA fans and locals. It serves as both the principal national stadium of Ireland and headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points.
