Erwin Kohn
Erwin Kohn (20 December 1911, in Baden – 18 March 1994, in Mar del Plata) was a male international table tennis player from Austria. Table tennis career Kohn was Austria's national table tennis champion by the age of 16. From 1932 to 1936 he won eight medals in singles, doubles, and team events in the World Table Tennis Championships. The nine World Championship medals included a gold medal in the team event at the 1936 World Table Tennis Championships for Austria. Personal life He was of Jewish descent so fled to England in 1938 and then emigrated to Argentina. David Jones (table Tennis)
David Jones was a male English international table tennis player. He won a silver medal at the 1931 World Table Tennis Championships in the Swaythling Cup (men's team event), a bronze medal at the 1932 World Table Tennis Championships in the men's doubles with Charlie Bull. His third medal came in the 1933 World Table Tennis Championships in the Swaythling Cup (men's team event) for England. He twice beat the great Viktor Barna in Swaythling Cup matches. Charlie Bull
Charles Harry Bull (29 March 1909 – 28 May 1939) was an English sportsman who played in 175 first-class cricket matches between 1929 and 1939 for Kent County Cricket Club and later for Worcestershire County Cricket Club. Bull also represented England at table tennis, winning a number of World Table Tennis Championships medals between 1928 and 1932. Cricket career After having made a number of appearances for Kent's Second XI in the late 1920s, Bull made his first-class cricket debut against Surrey in July 1929; he scored 23 in his only innings and sent down three overs for 19. Sándor Glancz (14 July 1908 in Budapest – 17 January 1974 in New York City) was a male international table tennis player from Hungary. Table tennis career From 1928 to 1934 he won several medals in singles, doubles, and team events in the Table Tennis European Championships. His fourteen World Championship medals included four gold medals; one in the doubles at the 1933 World Table Tennis Championships with Viktor Barna and three in the team event. He also won four English Open titles. Marie Šmídová (née Masáková; April 19, 1907 – 1963), was a female Czech international table tennis player. Table tennis career She won fourteen World Table Tennis Championships medals, in the women's singles, doubles and team events and the mixed doubles. She won three gold medals; two in the team event and one in the women's doubles. The fourteen World Championship medals included three gold medals; one in the doubles with Marie Kettnerová at the 1936 World Table Tennis Championships and two in the team event. Magda Gál
Magda Gál (married name Házi) (1907-1990), was a female Hungarian international table tennis player. Table tennis career She was a prolific World Table Tennis Championships medal winner and secured eight silver medals and twelve bronze medals from the 1929 World Table Tennis Championships to the 1936 World Table Tennis Championships. Gál came short of a gold medal for two reasons; first the fact that with various doubles partners she was unable to overcome the six times world champion pairing of Mária Mednyánszky and Anna Sipos, and secondly the war effectively ended her chances to compete at world level. She did however continue to play in the United States. She also won two English Open titles. Mária Mednyánszky
Mária Mednyánszky (7 April 1901 Budapest – 22 December 1978 also Budapest) was a Hungarian international table tennis star. Table tennis career She became the first official women's world champion winning the women's singles event gold medal in the first edition of the World Table Tennis Championships, held in 1926 at London. She went on to win the title for five successive years and won a further 18 world titles. Only Angelica Rozeanu holds more women's singles titles than her. She won seven doubles titles including six consecutive wins with Anna Sipos. She also won three English Open titles. Awards She was awarded the Golden Order of the Hungarian People's Republic in 1976, Hungary's highest sporting honour. Anna Sipos (3 April 1908 – 1 January 1988) was a Hungarian international table tennis player. Table tennis career She won 21 medals in the World Table Tennis Championships Eleven of these were gold medals. including six consecutive women's doubles wins when partnering Mária Mednyánszky. Halls of Fame Sipos was inducted into the International Table Tennis Foundation Hall of Fame in 1993. Sipos, who was Jewish, was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1996. István Boros
István Boros (20 April 1909 – 15 April 1994) was a male Hungarian international table tennis player. He won two bronze medals at the 1932 World Table Tennis Championships in the men's singles and the men's doubles with Tibor Házi. The following year he won another bronze in the men's doubles with Béla Nyitrai at the 1933 World Table Tennis Championships. He was of Jewish origin and was a National champion of Hungary.
