Gaius Shaver
Gaius Ray "Gus" Shaver (August 14, 1910 β October 11, 1998) was an All-American football player. He played at the quarterback and fullback positions for the University of Southern California Trojans football teams from 1929 to 1931. He was a consensus All-American in 1931 and led the Trojans that year to a national championship. Shaver was also captain of the winning team and the leading rusher in American football at the 1932 Summer Olympic Games. Harry "Wop" Glover was a college football player and coach. He attended University preparatory school at Saint Stanislaus College, playing for the "Rock-a-chaws." Glover played for the Tulane Green Wave football team, once the team's leading rusher in a Rose Bowl. He is in the Tulane Hall of Fame. 1931 Saint Mary's Gaels Football Team
The 1931 Saint Mary's Gaels football team was an American football team that represented Saint Mary's College of California during the 1931 college football season. In their 11th season under head coach Slip Madigan, the Gaels compiled an 8β2 record and outscored all opponents by a combined total of 119 to 65. The Gaels' victories included a 13β7 besting of USC, a 14β0 besting of California, a 16β0 victory over Oregon, and a 7β2 victory over Southwest Conference champion SMU. The lone setbacks were losses to the Olympic Club (0β10) and UCLA (0β12). Jerry Dalrymple
Gerald Richard Dalrymple (August 6, 1906 β September 25, 1962) was an American football and basketball player and coach. Dalrymple worked odd jobs at Ouachita Junior College in Arkadelphia for three years. He was a prominent end for coach Bernie Bierman's Tulane Green Wave football teams of Tulane University from 1929 to 1931. During his three seasons with the team, the Green Wave posted a record of 28 wins and two losses. He wore number 33. Dalrymple was All-Southern in just his sophomore year; All-American by his junior and senior year. In 1931, a year his team went to the Rose Bowl, he was the only unanimous All-American in the country. He is still the only unanimous All-American from Tulane. He was also Tulane's football captain that year. One article which attempts to retroactively name Heisman Trophy winners before 1934 named Dalrymple as the recipient for 1931. The Albert Russel Erskine Trophy was an annual award presented in the United States from 1929 to 1931 to the college football team recognized as national champions by a group of American sportswriters. Trophy The Erskine trophy is made of plate silver, in the form of a loving cup with two handles.
