1930 NCAA Men's Track And Field Championships
The 1930 NCAA Track and Field Championships was the ninth NCAA track and field championship. The event was held at Stagg Field in Chicago, Illinois in June 1930. The University of Southern California won the team title. The highlight of the meet was a new world record in the 100-yard dash, as Frank Wykoff ran the event in 9.4 seconds. Wykoff's time broke the prior world record of 9.5 seconds set by Eddie Tolan. Oregon Ducks
The Oregon Ducks are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent the University of Oregon, located in Eugene. The Ducks compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level as a member of the Pac-12 Conference. With eighteen varsity teams, Oregon is best known for its American football team and track and field program, which has helped Eugene gain a reputation as "Track Town, USA". Ed Hamm
Edward Barton Hamm (April 13, 1906 – June 25, 1982) was an American athlete, who won the gold medal in the long jump at the 1928 Summer Olympics held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, becoming the first Arkansan to win a gold medal. The ''Atlanta Journal'' called him "the South’s first world champion in any sport." Biography Hamm was born in 1906, to Charles Edward Hamm, a plumber and electrician, and Zilpah Dare Harris Hamm. He was the oldest of five brothers and one sister. Raised in Lonoke, he excelled in sports, especially track and field. At Lonoke High School, he won the state long jump for three years straight, 1923 to 1925, setting a state record of 23'2" his sophomore year. Ed Gordon (athlete)
Edward Lansing Gordon Jr. (July 1, 1908 – September 5, 1971) was an American athlete, who competed mainly in the long jump. He was born in Jackson, Mississippi, and died in Detroit, Michigan. Gordon was a student-athlete and graduated from the University of Iowa. At the 1928 Summer Olympics, he finished seventh in the long jump competition. He competed for the United States in the 1932 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, United States, where he won the gold medal in the long jump. Harold Manning
Harold William Manning (January 9, 1909 – January 26, 2003) was an American long-distance runner. He held the American record in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase from 1934 to 1952 and briefly held the world best in 1936. He represented the United States in the steeplechase at the 1936 Summer Olympics, placing fifth. Biography Manning was born in Sedgwick, Kansas on January 9, 1909. He took up running as a schoolboy; in 1927, his senior year at Sedgwick High School, he won the mile run at both the Kansas state meet and the national interscholastic meet in Chicago. After graduating from high school Manning went to Wichita University on an athletic scholarship. Claude Bracey (June 8, 1909 – September 23, 1940), known variously as the "Texas Flyer," the "Dixie Flyer," and the "Texas Tornado," was an American sprinter who tied world records in the 100-yard and 100-meter races between 1928 and 1932.
