Jim Crowley
James Harold "Sleepy Jim" Crowley (September 10, 1902 – January 15, 1986) was an American football player and coach. He gained fame as one-fourth of the University of Notre Dame's legendary "Four Horsemen (American football), Four Horsemen" backfield where he played Halfback (American football), halfback from 1922 to 1924. After a brief career as a professional football player, Crowley turned to coaching. He served as the head football coach at Michigan State University, Michigan State College from 1929 to 1932, at Fordham University from 1933 to 1941 and at the North Carolina Pre-Flight Cloudbusters football, North Carolina Pre-Flight School in 1942, compiling a career college football record of 86–23–11. 1929 Detroit Titans Football Team
The 1929 Detroit Titans football team represented the University of Detroit in the 1929 college football season. Detroit outscored opponents by a combined total of 174 to 52 and finished with a 7–1–1 record in their fifth year under head coach and College Football Hall of Fame inductee, Gus Dorais. Significant games included a victories over Tulsa (21–6), West Virginia (36–0), Michigan State (25–0), a loss to Oregon State (14–7), and a tie with Marquette (6–6). The team was led by halfback Lloyd Brazil of whom coach Dorais later said: "As far as I'm concerned, there were only three great collegiate backs in my lifetime -- Jim Thorpe, George Gipp and Lloyd Brazil." ''The Clarion Ledger'' is an American daily newspaper in Jackson, Mississippi. It is the second-oldest company in the state of Mississippi, and is one of the few newspapers in the nation that continues to circulate statewide. It is an operating division of Gannett River States Publishing Corporation, owned by Gannett. History The paper traces its roots to ''The Eastern Clarion,'' founded in Jasper County, Mississippi, in 1837. Later that year, it was sold and moved to Meridian, Mississippi. After the American Civil War, it was moved to Jackson, the capital, and merged with ''The Standard''. It soon became known as ''The Clarion''. In 1888, ''The Clarion'' merged with the ''State Ledger'' and became known as the ''Daily Clarion-Ledger''. Frederick W. Danziger (January 12, 1906 – October 18, 1948) was an American football player. Danziger was born in 1906 in Detroit and attended Detroit's Western High School.
