1929 Chatham Cup
The 1929 Chatham Cup was the seventh annual nationwide knockout football competition in New Zealand. The competition was run on a regional basis, with six regional associations (Auckland, Wellington, Poverty Bay, Manawatu, Canterbury, and Otago) each holding separate qualifying rounds. Electric Soccer Blandford Park held Auckland's first Chatham Cup match under electric lighting in 1929. The first round fixture between Auckland Thistle and YMCA (Auckland) in extra time, was completed under floodlighting. On 12 June, in a second round fixture, Northcote were scheduled for an evening kick off against Thistle at Blandford Park at 7:30pm, though due to bad weather the match was rescheduled to take place on 19 June, and again was postponed due to the weather. Basin Reserve
The Basin Reserve (commonly known as "The Basin") is a cricket ground in Wellington, New Zealand. It has been used for Test matches, and is the main home ground for the Wellington Firebirds first-class team. The Basin Reserve is the only cricket ground to have New Zealand Historic Place status ( Category II) as it is the oldest Test cricket ground in the country. The ground has been used for events other than cricket, such as concerts, sports events and other social gatherings, but now it is mostly used for cricket, particularly Test matches. On 1 October 2021, Cello Communications, a Wellington-based telecommunications company was appointed as the naming rights partner of the ground, thus the commercial name of the stadium became the Cello Basin Reserve as part of a two-year agreement. Nomads United
Nomads United is an association football club based in Casebrook, Christchurch, New Zealand. The club competes in the Southern League, the second tier of New Zealand football. Club history Nomads were a prominent team in early New Zealand football, reaching the later rounds of the Chatham Cup on several occasions and reaching the final in 1931. Though no longer the force they were in the early years of organised football in the country, the team again reached the final in 1963, although their best result in recent years has been to reach the quarter-finals in 2007. George Anderson (New Zealand Footballer)
George Anderson was a former association football player who represented New Zealand national football team, New Zealand at international level. Anderson made four appearances for the All Whites, all against the touring Canada men's national soccer team, Canadians. Huntly Thistle AFC
Huntly Thistle are an association football club based in the New Zealand town of Huntly, in the northern Waikato region. The club currently have teams in the WaiBop Premiership, Senior Men's, Senior Women's, Juniors and WSSFA College. Earlier points in their history they were one of the stronger teams in the Waikato. The club played in the top flight of the Northern League in the early 1970s, and at that time contained the club's only full international player, Jim Moyes. The team has reached the last-32 stage of the Chatham Cup on three occasions, in 1971, 1977, and 1989. North Shore United Association Football Club is an amateur football club based in the North Shore, Auckland. They compete in the Northern League, where they last won the competition in 2019. Onehunga Mangere United is an amateur association football club in Māngere Bridge, New Zealand. They currently compete in the NRFL Championship. History The club was formed in 1921 as a sporting club for members of the Onehunga Methodist Church. In 1924 at a meeting of members the decision was taken to rename the club Onehunga Athletic Soccer Club and Waikaraka Park became the clubs first official home ground before becoming the Onehunga Association Football Club in 1926. Mount Albert-Ponsonby is a semi-professional association football club in Mount Albert, Auckland, New Zealand. History The club is an amalgamated between Mount Albert FC and Ponsonby in 1971. Manurewa AFC is an amateur Association football, football (soccer) club in Manurewa, Auckland, New Zealand. They will compete in Lotto Sport Italia NRFL Division 1 with newly appointed head coach Marty Rodwell History Manurewa AFC was formed by the merger of Tramways (1929 Chatham Cup winner) and another club named Manurewa. Gisborne Thistle AFC
Gisborne Thistle AFC is an association football club based in the city of Gisborne, in the North Island of New Zealand. For many years, the club played second-fiddle to neighbours Gisborne City (with whom they share the Childers Road Reserve ground). Their record includes appearances in the latter rounds of the Chatham Cup on numerous occasions, their best performances coming in 1970 and 1971 when they reached the fifth round. Thistle joined the Central Federation League in 2005, winning the competition that same season and reached the Central League playoffs losing to Stop Out.
