The 1926 Volta a Catalunya was the eighth edition of the Volta a Catalunya cycle race and was held from 22 August to 29 August 1926. The race started and finished in Barcelona. The race was won by Victor Fontan. Victor Fontan
Victor Fontan (born Pau, France, 18 June 1892, died Saint-Vincent 2 January 1982) was a French cyclist who led the 1929 Tour de France but dropped out after knocking at doors at night to ask for another bicycle. His plight led to a change of rules to prevent its happening again. Sant Feliu De Guíxols
Sant Feliu de Guíxols () is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of the Baix Empordà in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated on the Costa Brava and is an important port and tourist centre. The district abuts to the north, the upmarket s'Agaró resort built round the Sant Pol Beach. In addition to tourism and the port the cork industry is a traditionally local industry. The town contains a large monastery which now houses the town museum and is a protected historico-artistic monument. The C-253 road runs north near the coast from Sant Feliu de Guíxols to Platja d'Aro and Palamós, while the C-65 road runs inland from the town. The GI-682 provides a dramatic cliff top drive to Tossa de Mar to the south. Sant Feliu de Guíxols is a staging point on the GR 92 long distance footpath, which runs the length of the Mediterranean coast of Spain. Gabriel Cruz
The murder of Gabriel Cruz, also known as ''Operación Nemo'', refers to the events related to the disappearance of Gabriel Cruz Ramírez, aged 8, on the afternoon of 27 February 2018 in Almería, Andalusia, Spain. Cruz disappeared while travelling from his grandmother's residence to his cousins', only 100 metres away, and remained missing for twelve days. A search and rescue operation consisting of over 5,000 people, including 3,000 volunteers and 2,000 professionals, was established. It was the largest coordinated search for a missing person in Spanish history. On 11 March 2018, Cruz' body was found in the boot of a vehicle belonging to Ana Julia Quezada, who was the father's partner at the time. Quezada had allegedly killed and buried Cruz on a farm owned by his father's family in the town of Rodalquilar, and had dug up and transported the body to her home in La Puebla de Vícar when she was detained by the Civil Guard. Igualada () is a municipality in the province of Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain. It is located on the left bank of the Anoia River and at the western end of the Igualada-Martorell-Barcelona Railway. Mariano Cañardo
Mariano Cañardo Lacasta (5 February 1906 in Olite – 21 June 1987 in Barcelona) was a Spanish professional road racing cyclist. He won a record seven editions of the Volta a Catalunya in the 1920s and 1930s, as well as four Spanish National Road Race Championships, Spanish national championship titles and one Tour de France stage win. Born in Olite, Navarra, his nickname was ''the Catalan of Olite''. Biography Cañardo grew up in Navarra, but, orphaned at the age of 14, he moved with his sister to Barcelona, Catalonia, where he discovered the bike. He was professional from 1926 until 1943, excelling mainly in the early Spanish stage races. An excellent climber and time triallist, Cañardo was next to invincible in the Volta a Catalunya, which he won seven times in addition to two second and two third places. Reus () is the capital of Baix Camp, in the province of Tarragona, in Catalonia, Spain.
