1921 Green Bay Packers Season
The 1921 Green Bay Packers season was their third season of competition and their first in the American Professional Football Association. The team finished with a 3–2–1 league record under player and coach Curly Lambeau, earning them a seventh-place finish. After the season the Packers were removed from the league, following their acknowledgment of using Notre Dame players during the season, who played under assumed names. Curly Lambeau
Earl Louis "Curly" Lambeau (April 9, 1898 – June 1, 1965) was an American professional football player and coach in the National Football League (NFL). Lambeau, along with his friend and fellow Green Bay, Wisconsin native George Whitney Calhoun, founded the Green Bay Packers in 1919, serving as team captain in the team's first year before becoming player-coach in 1920. As a player, Lambeau lined up as a halfback, which in the early years of the NFL was the premier position. He was the team's primary runner and passer, accounting for 35 touchdowns (eight as a rusher, three as a receiver, and 24 as a passer) in 77 games. He won his only NFL championship as a player in 1929. From 1920 to 1949, Lambeau was the head coach and general manager of the Packers, with near-total control over the team's day-to-day operations. Fee Klaus
Feryl J. "Fee" Klaus (September 26, 1902 – February 14, 1951) was a professional American football center in the National Football League. He played with his hometown team, the Green Bay Packers, in the first half of the 1920s. Klaus played football at Green Bay West High School and later joined the Green Bay Packers for the team's second season, finding consistent success rare for a local player. Jab Murray
Jab Murray (October 28, 1892 – April 28, 1958) was a player in the National Football League for the Green Bay Packers and Racine Legion from 1921 to 1924. He played at the collegiate level at Marquette University. Biography Murray was born Richard John Murray on October 28, 1892 in Oconto, Wisconsin, the son of Joseph Keady Murray (an Irish native of New Brunswick) and Margaret (Long) Murray (daughter of a Scotch-Irish ship captain in New Brunswick). After his professional football and baseball (Minot, ND of the Class C Northern League) career, he was admitted to the bar in 1920 and practiced law in Marinette, was elected mayor nine times (18 years), and also served at various times as city attorney, district attorney, and member of the county board of supervisors, the last for over 20 years. Cub Buck
Howard Pierce "Cub" Buck (August 7, 1892 – June 14, 1966) was an American football player and college coach. He played as a tackle at the University of Wisconsin, captaining the team and earning consensus All-American honors in 1915. Buck then played professionally for 10 seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with the Canton Bulldogs (1916–1920) and Green Bay Packers (1921–1925). Buck served as the head football coach at Carleton College from 1917 to 1919, at Lawrence College in 1923, and as the first head coach at the University of Miami from 1926 to 1928.
