Jake Stahl (American Football)
Edward Adam "Jake" Stahl (January 16, 1891 – October 8, 1966) was an American football player and coach. He played guard and tackle positions for the Pittsburgh Panthers football teams from 1915 to 1918. He was selected as a second-team All-American in 1918. He also played professional football from 1920 to 1921. Stahl served as the head football coach at Duquesne University from 1920 to 1921, compiling a record of 3–7–2. Biography Stahl was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He played high school football in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and at Bellefonte Academy in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. Stahl enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh, where he played four years of football under coach Pop Warner. Stahl was a member of the Pittsburgh Panthers football teams from 1915 to 1918. Duquesne University
Duquesne University of the Holy Spirit ( or ; Duquesne University or Duquesne) is a private Catholic research university in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Founded by members of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, Duquesne first opened as the Pittsburgh Catholic College of the Holy Ghost in October 1878 with an enrollment of 40 students and a faculty of six. 1920 College Football Season
The 1920 college football season had no clear-cut champion, with the ''Official NCAA Division I Football Records Book'' listing California, Georgia, Harvard, Notre Dame, and Princeton as national champions. Only California and Princeton claim national championships for the 1920 season. Andy Smith's Pacific Coast Conference champion California "Wonder Team" was the first national champion from the Pacific Coast. Princeton and Harvard were undefeated and with one tie to each other. Notre Dame was led by its first Walter Camp All-American, George Gipp, who died before the year was over. In the south, fans of either side in Georgia were happy. Georgia and Georgia Tech were both undefeated in Southern play. Georgia Tech lost to Pitt, which was undefeated with two ties. The 1920 Detroit Titans football team represented the University of Detroit as an independent during the 1920 college football season. Detroit shut out six of ten opponents, outscored all opponents by a combined total of 279 to 32, and finished with an 8–2 record in their third year under head coach James F. Duffy. Mack Park was the original home field of Detroit's Negro National League baseball franchise, the Detroit Stars. It was constructed in 1914 by Joe Roesink, sponsor of a local semi-professional team, a Dutchman of Jewish descent born in Grand Rapids who owned a chain of haberdasheries. Location The park was located on the east side of Detroit, about four miles from downtown, at the southeast corner of Fairview Ave. and Mack Ave., after which it was named. The location was then in the heart of the city's German community, some distance from the city's African American neighborhoods of Paradise Valley and Black Bottom, which were closer to downtown.
