United States gubernatorial elections were held in 1914, in 31 states, concurrent with the House and Senate elections, on November 3, 1914 (except for Arkansas and Maine, where they were held on September 14, and Georgia, where they were held on October 7). In Arizona, the governor was elected to a two-year term for the first time, having been elected to an inaugural three-year term at the first election in 1911. In Vermont, the gubernatorial election was held on the same day as federal elections for the first time, having previously been held in September. Charles Henderson (Alabama Politician)
Charles Henderson (April 26, 1860 – January 7, 1937) was an American businessman serving as the 35th Governor of Alabama from 1915 to 1919 and a member of the Democratic Party. Before serving as governor, Henderson was mayor of Troy, Alabama from 1886 to 1906 and played a role in Troy's business and civic development. After his term as governor, Henderson remained active in the community. In 1937, after a bout with influenza, Henderson suffered a stroke and died at age 76. The public high school and middle school in Troy bear his name. Early life Charles Henderson was born on April 26, 1860, in Henderson, Alabama. The 1914 California gubernatorial election was held on November 3, 1914. Hiram Johnson was elected in 1910 as a member of the Republican Party. Dissatisfaction with the conservatism of the Taft administration led many Republicans to join former President Roosevelt's Progressive Party, with Johnson served as the Vice-Presidential candidate in the 1912 presidential election. Despite losing the general election, and winning California by fewer than 200 votes, Johnson was supremely popular in California. He was re-elected in 1914 as governor under the Progressive Party ticket, nearly tripling his vote from 1910 as a Republican, and was elected and reelected as Senator many times until his death in 1945. Ralph Henry Cameron (October 21, 1863 – February 12, 1953) was an American businessman, prospector and politician who served as both Arizona Territory's Delegate to Congress and as an Arizona United States Senator. As a Territorial delegate, he saw Arizona achieve statehood in 1912. Cameron's greatest achievement in the US Senate was authorization for the Coolidge Dam.
