1911–12 Lancashire Cup
The 1911 Lancashire Cup was the seventh year of this regional rugby league competition. The winners of the trophy, for the first time, were Rochdale Hornets who beat local rivals Oldham in the final at Wheater's Field, Broughton, Salford, by a score of 12-5. The attendance at the final was 20,000 and receipts £630. Background The number of teams entering the competition was increased to 13 with the addition of recent newcomers Coventry. Although not a Lancashire club Coventry and were invited to play to increase the number of games played (the previous year they had played in the Yorkshire Cup on the same basis). With a total of entrants now at 13, there were only three byes in the first round. The Rochdale Hornets are a professional rugby league club from Rochdale, Greater Manchester, England, competing in the Championship, the second tier of European rugby league. The 1911–12 Northern Rugby Football Union season was the 17th season of rugby league football. Season summary Huddersfield finished the regular season as league leaders and then went on to claim their first Championship by defeating Wigan 13-5 in the play-off final. The Challenge Cup Winners were Dewsbury who defeated Oldham 8-5. Merthyr Tydfil dropped out of the league. Huddersfield's Australian winger Albert Rosenfeld set a new record for tries in a season with 76. Wigan won the Lancashire League, and Huddersfield won the Yorkshire League. Central Park (Wigan)
Central Park was a rugby league stadium in Wigan, England, which was the home of Wigan RLFC before the club moved to the JJB Stadium in 1999. Its final capacity was 18,000. The site is now a Tesco supermarket. History On 6 September 1902, Wigan played at Central Park for the first time in the opening match of the newly formed First Division. An estimated crowd of 9,000 spectators saw Wigan beat Batley 14–8. The first rugby league international was played between England and Other Nationalities at Central Park on 5 April 1904, Other Nationalities won 9-3 in the experimental -less 12-a-side game, with Wigan players David "Dai" Harris, and Eli Davies in the Other Nationalities team. Watersheddings
Watersheddings was the site of a former rugby league stadium in the Watersheddings area of Oldham in Greater Manchester, England. Historically it was in Lancashire, lying on the A672 (Ripponden Road) approximately 2 miles north east of Oldham town centre. Watersheddings was reportedly the highest professional RL ground in the UK at 770 ft above sea level, which would also list it as the highest ground of any professional sport in the UK. The DCBL Stadium (historically known as Lowerhouse Lane and Naughton Park) is a rugby league stadium in Widnes, Cheshire, England. Knowsley Road
Knowsley Road in Eccleston, St Helens, Merseyside, was the home ground of St. Helens from 1890 until its closure in 2010. St Helens Town FC played their home fixtures at Knowsley Road from 2002 until 2010. For a period, the venue also hosted Liverpool F.C. Reserves. The stadium was demolished during spring 2011 and a new construction then known as Cunningham Grange, named after club legend Keiron Cunningham, was built on the site.
