The Haddingtonshire (UK Parliament constituency), Haddingtonshire by-election was a UK Parliamentary by-elections, Parliamentary by-election held on 19 April 1911. It returned one Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, elected by the first past the post voting system. Previous result Candidates Result Aftermath In 1912, after three unsuccessful attempts, the local Conservative Association replaced Blyth with a new candidate, Mansfield Hunter, who was replaced in 1913 by Hugh Macmillan, Baron Macmillan, H. P. Macmillan. A general election was due to take place by the end of 1915. By the autumn of 1914, the following candidates had been selected to contest that election. Haddingtonshire was a Scottish county constituency represented in the House of Commons of Great Britain and the House of Commons of the United Kingdom from 1708 to 1918. Creation The British parliamentary constituency was created in 1708 following the Acts of Union, 1707 and replaced the former Parliament of Scotland shire constituency of Haddingtonshire (Parliament of Scotland constituency), Haddingtonshire. Boundaries The constituency encompassed the county of Haddingtonshire, with the exception, until 1885, of three towns (Haddington, East Lothian, Haddington, Dunbar and North Berwick) which formed part of the separate constituency of Haddington (UK Parliament constituency), Haddington Burghs. History The constituency elected one Member of Parliament (MP) by the Plurality voting system, first past the post system until the seat was abolished for the United Kingdom general election, 1918, 1918 general election.
